While I enjoyed the work I did at ANI I feel as though my time, energy, and commitment was not valued or appreciated by management. On more than one occasion they have been unprofessional; showing favoritism towards specific employees while being overly critical of others, engaging in workplace gossip and inciting drama, unnecessarily raising their voices to subordinates, giving little credit for tasks done well while belittling those who make any mistake; they are unapproachable and not even trained themselves to give you the help needed which make them unfit for any sort of leadership role—they are unprofessional, inconsiderate, and not fully capable for overseeing the lab. When coming into ANI I was excited to get an opportunity to work in pharma as well as grow my career in a quiet peaceful town like I always dreamed of. I started shortly after a mass exodus "due to the area", very quickly I realized that the area was not the primary reason for the departures. On multiple occasions early on I witnessed colleagues getting screamed at by a senior manager in front of the whole group. The training I received for the job was inadequate, not because the trainer was bad but because the trainer was so overwhelmed with all the other work that was expected to be done on top of training several people. This did not change over my time with the company, in fact often individuals were expected to train others on tasks for products that they never performed themselves. On a positive note, I did gain alot of experience with alot of testing and equipment by struggling through, making mistakes, and learning from my and others mistakes. Mistakes, while trying to avoid making them it was very difficult. Test methods were written in such a way that wasn't always clear, and I like so many previous chemists made the same mistakes. When trying to implement change to a method for better clarity on how to perform such tasks it was often shut down because it was to difficult to change, and you just should've known to check person (A) that you've never met or heard of, files on the PC. There was alot of tribal knowledge which the only way that anyone seemed to learn was to make the mistake. When any sort of mistake was made management didnt accept that additional testing time was needed, they more or less expected you to do whatever it takes to still meet that already unrealistic deadline even if that meant staying all night and not being compensated for it in any way. Career growth was limited and you had to be part of the internal click. Promotions in QC were not clearly laid out. Everyone in the QC lab was performing tasks that were well above the position title that they were, management found a way to always keep you from getting promoted with statistics which can be very misleading on how vital an individual is to operation. Time served seemed to be more important than actual quality output of product and effort. Cronyism was also very obvious within the whole QC department. If you were a favorite your expectations, and workload were less, along with being allowed to get away with more. Work/life balance, good luck with this one. If you want to move up in this company by hard work you're not going to be able to do that by just working 8 hours a day. You are expected to perform the tasks of the position you are trying to achieve while also performing your other daily tasks which take 7-8 hours already. The systemic issues that plague this company are not ironed out for continual improvement. You must bring a spear because this place runs on tribal knowledge. If you do not set boundaries, management will push you to work extra hours (as a salaried employee) to meet unreasonable expectations. Supervisors often behave unprofessionally such as publicly shaming employees for making minor mistakes or holding employees responsible for errors derived from typos in instructions.
