There are some great people here, flex time off and holidays are great.
|
It feels like we've been in a massive limbo since the acquisition was announced last year. Now that we are under Pfizer, it's just pure chaos. Senior leadership disappeared immediately, more junior staff took over but they're not providing any leadership. Pfizer tagged buddies for teams but they're unhelpful, absent and not aligned. No one took their place. Everyone is receiving conflicting instructions, roles and responsibilities are changing on a whim, communication is painful and unclear. Alot of management has checked out and it feels like they're just hoping everyone will quit to avoid severance. Before the acquisition we were promised things would be better, but the acquisition just froze bad processes and toxic people in place. Everyone seems to be making it up as they go and there is alot of handballing. Being on limbo makes it so hard to plan life around work. We've lost the benefit of our flexible culture. It also feels like many of the staff will be let go in winter and miss the benefit of the good job market. This place is a hot mess and it's very hard to carry on through this.

Weeklong summer break.
Some nice employee gifts throughout the year.
After some damning climate surveys and major issues filling open roles, everyone "allowed" to be fully remote (which works out b/c none of Sr Mgmt have ever actually lived in CA).

Other reviews mention great pay as a pro....but this is not true. Arena salaries are strictly middle of the road if comparing only to other San Deigo companies and on the lower end if comparing outside San Diego. Additionally, target bonus rates are below industry standard for all levels.
High turn over due to toxic culture
Opaque performance review process (HR changes the details at will and shares with no one).
Lead program is a Me Too product in a crowded space and years behind the competition.

Feels like a popularity contest. The HR department is toxic and suspiciously hire all of their friends without proper interviews or qualifications.
Feels like something illegal is happening here.
Popularity contest where you are either in (directors and up) or you’re out (everyone else)
People are blatantly rude to eachother in the HR department. Things have been mentioned to upper management but since they’re all past friends, nothing is done about it.
It’s a very very strange place to work. Not sure how else to say it.

Pay close attention to what is happening in HR.
Don’t be afraid to fire the bad apple.
Do your best to keep the humble folks. This culture does not feel like pharma culture. Feels more like a bank. Very toxic.
