Great benefits and opportunities BUT....
|
I'll be honest, the job had potential to progress and I thought I had the opportunity to grow but unfortunately my manager who promoted "no question is a silly question" didn't live by this and snapped when you actually ask a question (or make it very awkward to the point you rather not ask).

Not a company for pros, maybe entry jobs

Top management has problem, except CEO, all other guys are do not have people skills, they are not greet with you or even with eye contact, they don't want to give you a notes. Horrible mid management, for example, one time they let a co-worker to go, not give any reason or sympathy, just say this is way of business. We are the people, we think one day the same thing will be happen ourselves. Glad be out of that place.

Bad Management Protected by HR / 4 ppl in 4 years in one role

There are some great people working here, but many are stalled in their career by poor management. In the dept I worked, there was high turnover (which HR lied about during interviews) in senior and attoney positions due to the work environment: obsessive micromanagement, talking down to employees, and dismissal of most ideas not thought of by mgmt, plus screaming at employees by associate general counsel.

Some great people but leadership problems
|
Aspen has a cadre of very strong, smart, and capable people. Unfortunately, it doesn't pay them what the market will - many left during my tenure for up to 20% higher pay at other local firms. The company has persistent problems of stale management - promotion is rare and difficult and though it mostly grows by acquisition it constantly struggles to incorporate newly acquired technology and personnel.
Senior executives have been at the company for decades and have not changed as the technology world has changed. Aspen hires mostly chemical engineers to write software because that idea worked well decades ago. The company lags both in modern software practices and in modern software company culture. There have been some improvements in the past couple years, but not at a pace to retain top talent.
That said, you are likely to have fantastic team members if you are on the front lines there - PM, PMO, R&D, QA, etc. Every department I worked with (and I worked with almost all of them) has folk who work hard and who care a lot about what they are doing. i was sad to leave my coworkers.
