nasdaq:bset https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=1178 Mar 17th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Bassett Furniture Design Consultant Dublin, OH Corporate penny pinching and babysitting Clean, well-lit, comfortable space to work in. Good system in place for taking turns greeting customers, so that each interaction isn't a free for all. Customers are mostly pleasant. A wide variety of fabric and frame options to work with. Good customer service. Good detailed training program. The six figure pay estimate is not realistic. It's very difficult to get any commission at all, as you need to sell at least 55k worth of product for the month to get commission. And even if you do that, the commission is only 5%. If you sell 75k, you get 8%, which is better but fairly rare. The few "million dollar writers" of the company never stop working, even on their days off. And just to clarify, they aren't making a million dollars, just selling that much. 35-50k is a much more reasonable salary expectation including commission. Commission splits between designers both at corporate and regional levels are poorly distributed. Often designers end up getting undeserved pay via commission splits simply because they were the ones present when the quote was turned into a purchase. Management doesn't assist in helping customers on the sales floor unless the designers are already completely overrun with customers. Monthly reviews required by corporate are a waste of time- about an hour per person spent every month going over the reasons for corporate tracking and high name capture requirements. Designers do not have autonomy- they are micromanaged by middle management due to pressure from corporate. Meanwhile corporate has removed helpful sales tools like store tablets, displays of frame construction, and informational brochures for customers. Sales that customers complete via the website often don't get credited to the designer who assisted them. At the same time there is the added pressure of increased name capture requirements so that corporate can track and email customers endlessly. Each store is also expected to surpass that same month's sales the previous year in order for middle management to get a significant bonus. This system obviously does not take into account contextual differences in the economical climate from the previous year. All of the furniture is the same across the nation, and doesn't take geographical differences into account (such as trying to sell outdoor furniture in a landlocked state). For this reason sunnier states and states next to the coasts seem to have an advantage. Benefits are just ok. The bereavement policy is abysmal. You have two days to grieve the passing of an immediate family member. No one with darker skin works at this location. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 2.0 4.0 4.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1178 Open Make each sale result in a percent commission. Create a better system for splitting commission. Give middle management tasks other than motivating the designers- the commission structure should be plenty of motivation in itself when adjusted. Take into account regional product needs and style differences. If there must be a monthly review let it be an email instead of a meeting. Give designers the tools they need to make sales more easily. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Open Mar 18th, 2024 06:50PM Mar 18th, 2024 06:50PM Bassett Furniture Consumer Goods Household Goods

nasdaq:bset https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=1178 Jan 13th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Bassett Furniture Designer Dublin, CA Tough life working in Retail Met some really nice customers and co-workers who weren’t trying to take your customers away. When you had a great month in sales it was the best! The customers who treated you kind and trusted your true design expertise were the best. Not knowing how much you were going to make each month in commission and having to start out in the deficit if you were under your monthly sales goal. Very stressful and challenging especially when times are tough for everyone financially. You have to work every weekend and holiday if you want to reach your monthly sales goal. -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 2.0 2.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 1178 Open Always encourage and motivate your designers because we’re all wanting to hear “Great Job”, not “We’re a bunch of losers” when we’d have a bad month. True story…that was very unprofessional and rude to say to anyone, especially your team who work extremely hard for this company. Always praise your staff and thank them for doing such a great job! Motivation and positivity will definitely help keep your team happy and want to strive to become successful. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 1.0 Open Jan 16th, 2024 02:04PM Jan 16th, 2024 02:04PM Bassett Furniture Consumer Goods Household Goods
