CarGurus management wants to grow the company by growing its employees. If you like learning new things, and facing new challenges regularly, then this is a great place to work. If you like predictable, static assignments then you should look elsewhere.
The hybrid work model gives a nice balance between heads-down detailed work and collaborating with your team in-person. There's a lot of flexibility, making parental obligations easier to accommodate.
Teams are very supportive. I've never seen a place like CG, where egos get parked at the door, and helping each other achieve the team's goals (sprint or longer term) is the normal practice.
I do feel a bit spoiled by the workplace perks, such as free lunch, snacks, games room, and organized activities. I worry that this might create a sense of complacency (I've seen it happen at places like Google).
That being said, the company is a bit cheap with the computers being given to engineers. They are nice MacBook Pros, but with the smaller (14") screen, and with only 16 GB of RAM, which can rapidly run out when running a normal development environments (IDEs, Docker, etc.). I'd suggest negotiating for a better machine.
The most enjoyable aspect of the job is the feeling of accomplishment, when solving someone's technical problem, or delivering new functionality. People at CG are very generous with their recognition and praise.

All went downhill once we expanded
|
Was great at first before we expanded to over 400 employees. Culture totally changed. Lots of shady dealings on the 7th floor that I'm sure the CEO is unaware of. Management was horrible. Had To be a member of the good ole boys club to stay afloat. And if your loyal, have the CEO's back, and over 50, whatever you accomplish, will go unnoticed.

It's a bit like a combination of admin tasks and collaborating with Account Executives for upselling opportunities. You would be working cross-functionally with Product, Customer Success and Billing. Be prepared to constantly learn! Senior Manager is a sweet heart and the TL's are awesome. I also really like my coworkers they are incredibly helpful. I'm still new but so far so good!
