Unable to think of any pros unless you are looking for an entry level position.
|
The turn-over is extremely high. There is no such thing as life/work balance. If you live within 50miles of an office you are expected to be in the office every day no matter what. Forced hour lunch which makes for a 9 hour work day plus travel means you are never home. Insurance is unaffordable especially should you want to add a family member. The lowest cost family plan costs an average of over $600 per month. They do not value employees as everyone is so easily replaceable. All aspects of whatever account manager job is not really what it seems. You are basically a telemarketer and every call, email etc. is tracked on a level of micromanagement that is suffocating. Very few recognized holidays not even the day after Thanksgiving. No matter your tenure, you are only as valuable as your last sale.

It is a grind. You'll need to come prepared to work hard, but it can be rewarding. I like the freedom to work my book, prospect, and create a strategic approach without a 1-size fits all standard.

The mental aspect can be more demanding than the daily grind. Often, when account managers leave it is because they are not finding immediate success (4-6 months) and are having "talks" about performance. Manage your mental attitude, work hard, and good things will happen.

My manager is great. They are not micro managers so that allows us to perform with a level of creativity and takes some of the pressure off. Continue that. Avoid micromanaging your team unless the work ethic is nonexistant.
