The only pro is the pay which is still low given you must work over 40 hours a week to meet their insane metrics. Say goodbye to your family and friends as they will not see you anymore. You will be taken advantage of, micromanaged from someone across the country over metrics that don’t work, and when you ask for help, you’ll get nothing and there then a corporate scripted response from HR which is also a joke. This company cares only about the numbers and not the quality of those numbers which is a huge drawback to being a photographer at this dump. Look elsewhere and use your talents for a company that cares, this one does not and will not. You’re just a number and replaceable to this place. Costar is your typical, heavy handed corporate environment where EVERYTHING is judged on metrics and a heavy push to get a lot done in a very short period of time....ALL THE TIME! That is not sustainable for employees as burn out comes quick. However, management does not care and they'll tell you they are looking to make changes, but they never come. Things change, but only to get more complicated. The photographer position is under paid despite it being a 6 figure position as you will be doing work WAY beyond just photography. The position is not ideal for family men/women as the work life balance is nonexistent and they don't really care. The company culture is BAD (like BAD-BAD) with a lot of misleading info, dishonesty and something that resembles being in high school where petty is the norm. The photography position is actually pretty dangerous giving the type of tasks asked to produce as you will constantly be invading peoples privacy (playgrounds, schools, homes, & businesses) and going into places that (although legal), probably not a good idea. Bad neighborhoods, good neighborhoods with privacy seeking homeowners, and going into businesses that do not want you there. The photography position also requires you to be a salesmen (which they don't tell you upfront) as you will have to go to various places to "pitch" what you are doing. You will also be in danger of law enforcement encounters when flying drones near school property. This is legal, however, not a good idea as some law enforcement people do not know the laws. Costar knows this practice is not the best, but they don't care about the safety of photographers. They just want you to get the content while pushing quotas for the amount and type of content gathered each week. You will definitely be working WAY more than 40 hrs per week, which is one of the reasons why the position is under paid. And they tell you that you'll need to work occasional weekends and evenings...however, in order to reach the quotas, it'll need to be more than occasional. Again, not a position for family men/women. You will also have little access to anyone other than your direct manager and if you have a problem with him/her...then good luck on finding someone to mention the issue to. You'll need to go through the manager to get to anyone else and you'll never really meet or be provided the contact info for anyone above your manager. The photography managers are all about filling their own metrics/quotas and will tell you whatever in order to get the numbers they need. They hired a ton of photographers in late 2023 nationally and many have dropped like flies as this job is not what they made it out to be. I'd give them a 5.0 but I find 5.0's suspicious and it wasn't always smooth.
