Free Lunches, Competitive salary to entice you to join, onsite gym, EV Chargers, Indoor Garage, brand new building, company events. Toxic work environment, useless upper management, passive aggressive/bullying/unprofessional personalities from upper management in some groups. They would rather get rid of employees in order to cover up their inability to mentor, manage, and most importantly support their team. Upper management is more focused on telling their leaders what they THINK their leaders want to hear and not the issues that are really going on in their team, so issues don't get addressed or fixed efficiently. Accountability and goals only apply to the employees and not upper management. Upper management of some teams operate in a way where it goes against the very core values that the company preaches about all the time. HR is very aware of this and yet does nothing. No surprise that there's high turnover on some teams. They have a new development program that is supposed to provide equitable access to career development/mentorship, However, with these programs it really only benefits the employees whom upper management already has in mind to promote anyways, so its not really equitable access for all. Pay attention to the high turnover on some teams. More intensive leadership training for people managers. More accountability for upper management. Any upper management personnel who think everything is fine and that there's no room for improvement, is either not aware of the true issues going on. Organizations tend to value "leaders" who are upwardly conforming and downwardly controlling. That is, these leaders are fawning toward their superiors and dominating toward their direct reports. This leadership behavior has a stultifying effect on company culture. It generates a highly politicized atmosphere that places a premium on telling people in charge what they want to hear and on ignoring the input of people lower down the totem pole. The men there have big egos and will be insulted if you simply continuing talking as they man-interrupt you. They then will go and report you to your manager. They will also yell at you and then when you report it to HR, the company will fire you. If you go to HR, make sure you are complaining about something that is protected by law. Harassment and bullying/yelling in the work place is not yet protected. Also, if you don't pay attention, you will be used a tool to conceal personal agendas so make sure everyone, especially your internal customers, know what your manager is telling to do and what no to do. Also, I think your employees need some sensitivity training as one manager insisted that English was the "native" language to the US. It is NOT and to say so is so racist. I repeated several times, 'first language" but this manager kept saying "native" to correct me and I got tired of say '1st language" to her as she was just doubling and tripling down on this point. I guess she wanted me to know she is really racist. The "native" language in the US is NOT English. Also, a 30 days notice implies that you will be paid or worked for that 30-day period, when firing some one. It is extremely bad form and most likely illegal to refuse to pay or play during this 30-day period. Why put it in your contracts if it has no value. Good science, some people are good Poor people management. The person that I was reporting to would invalidate my feelings and would ask “why do you feel this way?”. Total gaslight! . It was like being in high school. Total lack of respect for young professionals and treating us like new born babies. Some scientists are super insecure about their position in the company, would rather get rid of employees than actually mentor, educate and lead. . . The men form majority of the scientist and it’s all about “the alpha male”. Women hardly participate in scientific discussions except for Anne Murphy and meetings are hardly a safe space for women to speak up. Team leaders and above, don’t foster a safe space at all. It's like being in school again. So many mean and toxic colleagues. I've never seen such games being played at work, never received such catty, rude, and unprofessional emails. About 40% of the time is spent dealing with coworkers who stab you in the back in multiple ways, every day. No one actually talks to each other, they talk trash about everyone to other people.
