The pros of working at Electro Rent are few. A California based business that is completely out of touch with their workers. The more senior people lend a hand, the atmosphere feels innovative and new at the HQ in CA. The office in CA is pretty nice. Advancement is possible - if you want to relocate to CA.

Although you may think that remote work is the answer, I would submit to you that it is very poorly managed. I felt detached and unsupported while in the remote environment. People internally do not like, nor will they embrace change. Often times sales people felt that the customers of the larger company are owned by them. It was offensive to them that you were told to call, and did. There was a lot of verbal abuse that was passed back to my team. Company events happen from time-to-time once you are in town. Often times these events are filled with alcohol but being overserved would not be a good idea. Transportation is always a challenge yet, it will not matter, and I would not suggest that you even enter if you think that days off, or holiday's are a thing. Work continues. I would submit that loyalty is measured by time, and how much you are liked versus people that tackle projects and get things done. From my experience, I found very poor leadership. I started the entire project from the ground up including finding the space, hiring, training, and delivering 20X the annual revenue vs. projections. I had no support such that if failure was emminent those behind the scenes who would also take the credit if it was a successs. It did not stop there, no one cared when it was working (unsupportive) they were even worse when it came to turnover, employee issues, and anything else - for example, closing down the office for the holiday (remote office) was not allowed even though all personnel were on leave. I was specifically told that the office cannot be empty through Christmas and New Years - why - because they have families? Poor communication, if at all should be expected. No transparency, and a CEO who consistently hears what he selectively finds interetsing, or worth repeating. Very much a helicopter leader. I found very little feedback, no path toward advancement, no evals or real feedback on a job that created a new business unit, and a new source of recurring revenue, sales of used equipment, and other sources such that the team had paid for themselves accross the board (ALL COSTS) in three months. All we did was profit. One final example, after creating, and hiring all of the staff, and the processes, systems, and had the Outbound callers doing more than ever, our senior boss received a President's Award for his involvement in creating the Outbound Call Center. My point, don't expect any decorations, bonus, or even a thank you - you will not get it.

Try to identify leaders that you trust are actually coaching; don't take their word for it. Perhaps someone who actually understands the phone, phone prospecting, best practices, and perhaps some history outside of college. Selling a product that sells itself does not qualify a person as a good prospector, people believe in people who speak from experience. Everyone has something to offer, everyone is promised a chance at advancement, but people who are trying to advance need mentors, coaches, and clear feedback that is both honest, and actionable, of which there are none. There is no need for hidden agendas or promoting those you like. Find leaders.
