You will be expected to accommodate customers beyond your work schedule. At the end of day you will be mentally exhausted. You'll quickly realize your job is a paycheck, not a career. Pay & benefits My pay and benefits at Erie Insurance Group are what kept me there. Pension earned after 15 yrs of service. Benefits help compensate for the low pay. Job security and advancement In terms of job security at Erie Insurance Group, I think you are in constant competition with your peers, often compared. Management is over-bearing and make numerous errors. If you do not possess a college degree you will not advance. Management In general, managers at Erie Insurance Group are overbearing to the highest degree. Through the years the company has changed drastically. There is a high level of stress placed upon claims adjusters and appraisers. So many great long term employees have left and those that remain are under extreme stress. Newcomers are quick to realize the pressure is too much to bear. High job turnover. Culture Collaboration with my colleagues at Erie Insurance Group is the only positive, amongst the benefits. I've met some great people through the years. There is a great deal of favoritism so some climb the promotional chain far faster than others, especially for those who are bi-lingual. They promote diversity and encourage attendance to community events. Overall My experience working at Erie Insurance Group has been traumatizing. I went from being a valued employee to being washed aside as favorites gained the spotlight. Customers became numbers and the true purpose of the company was lost in order to implement strict processes to ensure Erie is rated highest above all other insurers. Sadly, I intended to retire with the company. Through the years those that held the company to a high level of integrity have since retired. New managers with other insurer histories are now implementing other insurers strategies and are no longer focused on the very policyholders that line their pockets. Cutting corners is encouraged and being thorough discouraged. Those with disabilities be very weary. Through the years I upheld a strong work ethic, maintained professionalism and reminded managers my customers were not numbers. Everyone was not treated fairly and equally. Honestly would not recommend working for Erie to anyone. Three employees walked in together and only one was counted late. Others constantly late from lunch and break and never talked to. Not a very helpful environment. Having 30 years in the industry and more than two decades at Erie Insurance, I can truly say that Erie is the cream of the crop for working in the Insurance World. However, this is a high stress environment with strict goals and needy customers. Management has high expectations of its employees and brokers no tolerance for lazy workers. But along with those expectations comes respect and a good culture. One of the most positive places I have worked. But the jobs are demandings and often overwhelming. Many of the jobs allow flexibility or even work from home availability. Job Satisfaction Strict expectations and tight goals. As a family oriented company it is slowly leading to ‘just a numbers’ mentality.
