Impactful company mission. High rate of employee turnover--people generally leave the lab for other ventures around 1-2 years. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the company culture has shifted from one of genuine care and appreciation for employees to one where the only focus is company bottom line and the profit loss if turn around times increase. Employees are increasingly asked to do more with less. Career moves up or out to other departments for lab employees are incredibly difficult even though the company claims to care about investing in employee development. If you enjoy repetitive work with little variation or opportunity to problem solve, this job would work for you. Laboratory managers do not fully understand laboratory workflow and processes which leads to unrealistic expectations for laboratory output-- a perfect recipe for employee burnout, overuse injuries, and high rate of staff turnover. My team is excellent, but they've been at the mercy of poor managers. Timeliness are constantly shifting. There is a lot of ego in managers here. Workload is high. People are regularly asked to work weekends. There are way too many middle managers without the requisite experience leading to large meetings that have minimal benefit to attendees.
