Tough to feel motivated when pay is low (and constantly going lower) and promotions are gone.
|
|
The people are great. They are the only thing keeping me here.
|
We don't have the chance to get promoted....so why would we stay to try to build a career here?
We don't get paid enough to start, and now they are cutting our pay even more. It's gotten to the point that everyone is going to have to leave just to support themselves financially because our salary doesn't cut it.
Morale is low. Everyone is quitting....

A great workplace for the curious
|
|
- Great company culture
- Interesting product which is stimulating for employees
- Chance to work with the world's best clients
- Smart colleagues
- Meritocratic career advancement
- Good pay, particularly in sales
Every company has its challenges, and Forrester certainly made a few missteps, but overall its a brilliant place to work. It was my first job out of uni and I couldn't have asked for a better starting place to develop breath of knowledge about the working world, cutting edge tech & practices and a great network of clients. The people make a business and Forr has great people by the bucket load.
|
- Product development wasn't connected to customer feedback.
- Company cuts to tuition support were a real shame for a business looking to hire & retain intellectually curious staff.
- Organisational change was managed ok in delivery, but the new directions chosen were often questionable.
- Coaching skills are sporadic across the org and not valued highly enough.
- Forr was not clear on its selling methodology when I was there.

- Forrester went through too many org changes which weren't customer focused and rarely led to product improvements for clients or employees. It felt like product development was more based on increasing shareholder value (pushing syndicated products), rather than feedback from customers. Which is particularly painful given the company's focus on customer obsession. This ultimately led to stagnating sales. Find out what your customers want and do more of it to improve the bottom line. Don't start with the margin and work back from there.
- The roll out of the customer success organisation got rid of the account development manager role, which was a great introductory position for Forrester. So many successful reps, RAs, consultants & marketing managers began as ADMs, and by rolling out the CSM model, Forrester ended up paying for mid-level talent who didn't have much career progression to keep them at Forr. It also put lots of responsibility on a mid level position which wasn't always capable of delivering on it. Better to hire curious & intelligent junior people who are looking to prove themselves to the account manager they work with. Creating a grad program might help to fill the talent gap, but the CS x Sales collaboration issues could prove harder to fix.
- Sort out your internal sustainability strategy. By the time I left (2022), the company had just introduced a boiler plate ESG page on the website. It looks like sustainability research is now progressing well which is good, but you have to practice what you preach! Drink your own champagne or whatever tagline was used at SKO a few times.
- Choose a selling methodology and train managers to coach on it properly. In my 5 years we were half-heartedly trained in 3 different methodologies and I couldn't tell you which one we were meant to be working too.
- Get rid of the European division of countries and go back to managing clients as a European entity, at least for enterprise clients. Large tech companies collaborate & buy with teams across Europe and the org change made it a nightmare to sell to European clients. Better to have a rep running it from where its HQ'd with the ability to travel across the geos.

Research and product teams haven't taken accountability for failing FD. It got pretty difficult hearing from small-midsized clients that the new FD model did not cater to their business needs
