The company has fallen on some hard times because of past CEOs and nearly all of the upper management has resigned. Usually a couple of posts are vacant at a time. Many of the sales department have resigned for better jobs outside the company. Turnover is very high. Managers would rather fire people than work to eliminate problems. Overtime is expected and not compensated for. I sat in a finance budget meeting for over an hour as the CIO. Eventually the CFO informed me that I probably did not need to attend this budget meeting. I asked if there was interest in the ongoing burn-rate and run rate for multiple high profile, cost programs that I was leading. There was a pause and everyone agreed that this was significant. The meeting was belayed until further notice. Never to be broached again. I resigned with a note to management and HR that I was not comfortable with the level of scrutiny and attention that was being directed towards IT. Although I had no room for advancement but the word senior put in front of my name is seems that with the right connections and timing one could achieve a move up in the company. My co workers were wonderful to work with and the environment was non stressful.
