They like to dangle the promise of a raise and more opportunities for growth over your head to squeeze as much work out of you as possible and then will give you a 4-6% raise no matter how productive you are and how much more responsibility you take on

Great Company
|
|
I have been with this company for a little over 3 years and honestly can't imagine working anywhere else. New management has led us well and isn't afraid of making changes to keep us relevant in a tough market. When it comes to DEI initiatives, management recognizes we aren't where we need to be and is taking active steps forward and constantly asking for feedback, especially the negative feedback. I enjoy the small company feel even though we are a larger company. Things like the ability to work hybrid (depending on your role), Summer Fridays, floating holidays, and the overall caring culture are just a few.

Like other industries, the furniture industry can ebb and flow quite a bit depending on the economy.

Continue to be transparent from the top down about the state of business and where we are headed. This is much appreciated.

Look elsewhere— their heyday is long gone
|
|
Some really great people with really great ideas. Some autonomy to do your job without micromanagement. Opportunities to get somewhat involved in the company in areas outside your area of expertise. Nice looking product, good industry reputation, looks nice on a resume.
|
Some of the worst communication I have ever experienced in a work place. Lots of smoke and mirrors. Severe disconnect between upper management and the people doing the work. Lots of secrecy and nepotism. Anyone with a position based in a satellite facility and not in the Martinsville HQ has very little job security, and the company’s loyalty is nonexistent. They play a good game with regard to DEI and “green” stuff, but it is all a farce. They are constantly putting out last minute fires instead of getting ahead of things. I wanted to love it here, but they made that impossible.

Don’t treat employees like children. Understand what your direct reports job duties are (I can’t believe I even have to say that). Transparency!!!!!!!!! Cross-company information sharing that isn’t just shared with office people, but with other locations too. Do what you claim you’re sound, stop manipulating trade press. The emperor has no clothes, and it is getting harder to spin that in a way that is favorable. Do better.

Changed management, ruined the department
|
|
They pay well for the area. They are involved in the community.
|
Company changed management about a year ago. They have become extremely micromanaging which has caused all seasoned employees to leave. The department is over worked and stressed. Management does not seem to have any idea of what goes on on a day to day basis.

Reconsider management practices. This about how the morale and atmosphere was when you got there. That’s what made the company so special. The changes being made are going backwards and absolutely not what this company has stood for for over 100 years.

Dying company with clueless leadership that has an unwillingness to improve antiquated work processes
|
|
I can not think of one pro unfortunately. You will get a lot of practice in excel, that's about it.
|
- Leadership appears to be on downward spiral. (several layoffs in key leadership positions)
-general lack of direction (leadership unable to provide clear and precise targets due to fundamental lack of understanding of DDP supply chain methodologies)
-several key supply chain metrics not being tracked or utilized in order to optimize inventory
-general lack of respect from leadership
-acceptance of antiquated business practices
-undriven workforce, simple tasks will take months to complete
-poorly organized data warehouse (tables are not set up in a way to easily make updates to automated reports)
-company will be converting to a cheaper and less encompassing ERP in the near future.
- leaders always expressed wanting to have a collaborative upbeat work environment but will aggressively shut down any attempts at collaborating to improve work processes
- leadership is not accepting
- questioning anything will have you labeled as "not a team player"
-severely limited in man power/leads to a lot of trivial/manual tasks that would be automated at a larger company with more resources
- company is not in a great position financially
-Leaders appear to be incapable of doing their own analysis on anything
- lack of understanding on statistical forecast and the benefit of inventory optimization
-general lack of attention to detail
-months of great work will be ignored yet one mistake will plague the rest of your employment
- company outlook is very grim with no time table on if/when things will improve and no plan on how to improve them.
- lots of data that is tracked and reported on that never gets used
- leaders will not work with you if you are unhappy with your work situation. you will be labeled as "not a team player"
