Flexible and understanding
|
Htlf has good benefits and are progressive with their hr policies. They offer good PTO and a generous match/bonus in 401k. Their pack is very lack luster, probably because their based out of Dubuque IA but hire around the country for different departments.

Flexible, hybrid work schedule but could be better.
|
Generally a nice place to work. Lots of organizational changes all the time. Management roles always changing. Hybrid schedules but the positions that could be done 100% from home are not allowed to. So, there is some flexibility but lots of room for improvement. Pay is somewhat low. PTO is fairly generous.

HTLF is always evolving
|
Overall, this is a great company. The landscape is always changing as management at top surveys constantly and works to improve things. Also, this is a company built on premise of a couple acquisitions a year, so change is part of the game! Benefits are good and leaders at the top care. No longer do you need to come in from IA to be heard and matter, either. Lower/mid managers could use some more training.

Enjoyed working with a great team
|
No room for advancement. They turnover the people so they can never be fully vested and their main goal is to protect the bottom line. Insurance is very expensive and the pay is not competitive even though they state that it is. The hiring process takes months up to years. The HR Team is constantly being turned over so you never know who to talk to as they may not work there anymore.

I had a great leader that I worked for
|
Health Insurance is very expensive and it can cost you more than you would ever expect

Great Pay - Not So Great Training
|
The benefits and pay were great, though the training process was very disappointing. Management seemed overly stressed which, in my opinion, led to lack of communication between the team. If you don't have banking experience and are hoping to jump into the industry, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Management Is in the 19th century. They have no game plan and no clue what it’s doing.
|
It has no game plan to move into the 21st-century banking. The banking, loans, and the wealth division need to be updated to meet clients 21st-century needs. The CEO is still in the 18th century. He Needs to have a clear plan and direction for the corporation. The 7 Sister banks are having the same issues.

Mixed Review - Not for Everyone
|
PROS:
1) Some of the best, nicest, most dedicated people work at this bank.
2) AB&T has a very creative credit credit team and are very aggressive with credit.
3) You will have autonomy in your role, since your production will speak for itself.
4) For a relatively small commercial bank, their technology and capabilities are pretty good.
5) It is easy to make a name for yourself at this bank if you are willing to put in the work.
CONS:
1) Leadership at local and Heartland-level does not value diversity/equity/inclusion. Unless you are a straight, white male and/or related to someone who is legacy, significant advancement opportunities are extremely unlikely and rare. There is a significant amount of unconscious and conscious bias amongst leadership at all levels.
2) Engagement of employee is very low and there is high turnover.
3) This is a commercial bank -- unless you are a top producer on the commercial team, your role is not valued.
4) Processes from Heartland and CRM are a mess.
5) Does not have fully-inclusive benefits.

Fun place to work, Management doesn't stand up for you
|
Most of the people there are fun to work with, Except for a few managers who think they are better than you. If your dept. doesn't bring in money to the bank, you are consider irreverent, and therefore don't deserve nice pay raises

If you are new to banking, do not work here
|
They do not have a training department. You will most likely be working with only one-two people in a branch. You will not be able to take time off when needed.
