Promotion from within is great but make sure that those promoted receive training to actually manage people. Retaliation by management for pointing out deficiencies is never the right way to make the team better. The lack of diversity in management cannot be fixed by putting in place ED&I initiatives that employees must undertake as a part of their performance review. These initiatives aim to amend what is wrong outside Ironwood and not within.

There were some genuinely good, hard-working, well-meaning employees...mostly dissatisfied and frustrated with management who found ways to make poor decisions about the future of the company.

Typical Small Pharma company that espoused principals, values and standards that were merely aspirational. They outgrew their abilities and into all the cliches (and negatives) of Big Pharma. The Peter Principal applied completely to senior management.
