Responsibilities were relaxed with low expectations and the same each day. Got to at least learn about Software QA, by performing bug testing, regressions, and scripted tests, and have insight into what goes into developing video games. I was able to make great friends while surrounded by peers with the shared passion for video games, game development, and other interests. A lot of people were very accepting, inclusive, and kind. We were allowed to express ourselves, with loose dress codes, desk decor guidelines, with a relaxed environment and ability to joke around. They offered a majority of us free Lionbridge merchandise and free coffee, and there were several company and employee operated special activities, clubs, events, and tournaments. And we once got an all-expenses-paid trip to Wahooz Family Fun Zone. I had a lot of positive experiences working for Lionbridge. However, there were many more negative. Instantly laying off more than 100 temp and fulltime employees of several positions without notice except for a short mostly inaccessible conference call and separation letter after termination, after being told our surprise day off beforehand was simply for "maintenance". Job security, after ended contracts with game companies, for all positions is a lie. Management being paid to not do their jobs and handing off all their work to lower and lower positions leading to low paid temps/FT volunteering for more work than being paid. Sometimes even management responsibilities. Managers begging their employees not to make them do their jobs, and employees begging them to do their jobs. Lower positions like temps and FT testers encouraged to over perform more than they're being paid for the false promise of a conversion/promotion that will hardly ever come even if they've worked there for more than a year sometimes longer. Dead end job. Zero incentive at all, especially when any day full time employees can be mass terminated in an instant. Employees making much less income compared to cost of living and necessities. Significantly less income than what's standard for Software QA. Lionbridge games QA is simply cheap third party labor. Inadequate medical benefits. Applicable only to fulltime employees with high out-of-pocket costs in the thousands. Extremely poor communication between all levels of management. Employees being told to ask someone else about something because no one can know or promise anything with certainty. Misinformation, rumors, uncertainty, and lies. No encouragement of employees to voice their opinions with limited avenues and silencing. My team specifically was told to think of ourselves as "Mushrooms that grow better when completely in the dark", and that we didn't need to know what was going on. We were frequently infantilized and disrespected, and treated more as highschoolers than capable adults. The encouragement and participation of bullying by Testers/Management. Several instances of individuals being bullied into quitting or being fired for meltdowns. Allowing rude/toxic behavior, gossip, rumors, and dehumanization of people on a daily basis affecting their ability to perform or show up to work. Several instances of wrongful firing of individuals simply disliked by management through abuse of power, not so much on individual performance or behavior. Several instances of allowing ablism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, and racism to be openly expressed and continuously occur in the workplace with little to no consequence even when repeatedly reported. Managers having an unhelpful "Deal with it." "It's just the gamer culture." "Comes with the job." mentality. Like this is acceptable behavior in any workplace. Tolerance of physically unsafe and hazardous work environments. Making employees work during a site-wide sewage leak with noxious odor and not compensating the people needing to leave work for their health, when becoming too nauseous and ill. Tolerating poor hygiene and disgusting behaviors of employees. Skid-marks on chairs, boogers wiped under desks, foul odors, and furniture causing skin irritations, with removal of furniture and simple reminders to practice hygiene instead of actual disciplinary action. The culture on the corporate and individual level is incredibly toxic, and that's blamed on 'Gamer Culture', and not on a lack of zero-tolerance policy or action by management. Do not work here if you are a minority. The hardest part about this job are the people. Dealing with incompetence, miscommunication, harassment, and toxic behaviors from management and employees, directly or indirectly every single day. The most enjoyable part about the job were the friends I made and experience I got that will help me find better opportunities and never look back. The overall tasking is just monotonous and repetitive from day to day. The company just looks at you as a number with the ability to just mass layoff entire projects with the false guise of "getting a day off". HR quiere hacer politicas de call center para rotar personal, lo cual al cliente de QA no le conviene por la gran posibilidad de filtracion de información. El ambiente laboral es muy bueno pero la relación con upper managment es muy mala. 6 días de trabajo a la semana que desgastan a largo plazo a los empleados (HR y upper managment trabajan solo 5 días) Si quieres trabajar en videojuegos, esta es una gran opción para empezar pero no para crecer. I’ve had one of the better experiences at LB, on one of the best teams, some of the best opportunities. It’s still miserable. The company exploits naive people into working bad hours, with bad pay, communicating so poorly that it’s actually funny most of the time. New hires are held in a state of limbo, they’re basically permanent-temporary contractors. This allows the company to fire whoever they want, whenever they want and face no consequences from it. You WILL be scared about losing your job constantly and it’s common to see people who have been employed for a year on a three month contract. The one plus side of the job has been some of the people, who are all leaving because of how the company treats us. The company lies to your face, refuses to pay a living wage, and then pats themselves on the back when their million dollar clients compliment how well their testers did.
