Everyday was a new day, never a cut and paste day..
|
Everyday was always a new day with different people you would engage with, new opportunities, different tasks. The students, faculty, staff and company mentors are all very excited to be there and helpful. Colleagues were encouraging.
Difficult to move up in the career path if you don't have anything greater than a master's degree. Coming in with an engineering degree, my department was reorganized and I was teamed with much simpler degrees. We all made the same and only those with a master's could advance. It didn't matter what the degree was in either. Most often times they weren't even best qualified for the job.
|
Kids college education was at a huge discount.
|
Numerous times in meetings, someone would just start belittling their staff. Not impressed!

I am an adjunct instructor and I wish the pay per class was better Class assignments are limited. I know I can handle more class assignments. I love the GCU students. I appreciate the Christian environment.

There is ongoing support. People will call you back when you have questions or concerns. Also, it helps to feel you will have contracts for each teaching cycle.

Unreasonable expectations
|
This is a shamelessly FOR PROFIT COPORATION. It is not a non-profit entity as they actively strive to misrepresent. I know. I worked for GCE, the business arm of GCU.
I made money for my employer. A lot of it. It was deemed not enough to satisfy baseless quotas created from nothing. No historical sales data. No sales trends. Literally nothing. In point of fact, my territory and market were both completely brand new and never exposed to the brand.
GCE's sales model is long-since and completely broken. It is absolutely unsustainable.
If you are prepared to be asked MULTIPLE TIMES every single day how many students you have recruited then go for it.
I recommend STRONGLY that you look for something else.

It's pretty ok
|
It's a job, and who can argue with that? The university does nothing to support adjunct faculty. You work and then receive a very small paycheck for your efforts. The university is very impersonal. Everything is run by computers.

Dedicated to Students
|
GCU is an excellent place to work/teach. They are truly dedicated to the success of each and every student. They provide lots of support to their adjunct faculty and a mentor. I always felt I could contact anyone at GCU Faculty Resources and I would receive immediate help. It is a wonderful place to teach!

Comradery
|
The curriculum team I worked with had a great sense of comradery. Team members were willing to jump in and help one another and everyone did their best to make the work environment as fun as possible.
The curriculum team works directly with the associated college which was mostly a positive experience; however, there were some challenging personalities with which to find common ground.
|
Supportive manager, learning GCU’s method of curriculum development is an interesting process

Management
In general, managers at Grand Canyon University thought they were royalty.
Overall
My experience working at Grand Canyon University was horrific. The CEO IS SEXIST & racist. He cared more about recruiting students who should NOT be in school than actually expecting students to perform. He is Weinstein’s twin.
