While the company has produced encouraging data, the competitive environment has recently shifted, making NewLink Genetics' path to drug approval more difficult. For this reason, the stock has declined significantly, institutional investor interest has waned, and the company faces a riskier path toward success. The balance sheet is strong, however, and the company has restructured and aligned its development strategy toward one that is feasible within the company's financial horizon. There were no surprises but there were lack of visibility, cooperation, some were too concerned of their territories which created some conflicts. However, I learned a lot working at NewLink; while managing quality system following appropriate regulations, explored new areas of science; concept of small molecules, chemistry, formulation, production, analysis/release drug products to clinics, clinical studies, managing CMOs, CROs and bioanalytical analysis of patient's sample. In my opinion management can be better for company's future. The culture at NewLink is very good. The hardest part of the job was lack of visibility and defined roles and responsibilities, no project timeline. Having project timeline that can be shared with employees is always better for creating responsibilities and accountability. In our team we initiated daily short and sweet 5 minutes standup/walking meeting for visibility and communication and that helped a lot to complete projects on time. I enjoyed learning and engaging myself in compliance and regulation.
