This was an amazing place to work! I learned so much about sales (among other things) in such a short time. The Brokers there are amazing salesmen and you pick up a lot form them. I worked there for 1 year as an unpaid intern, and had to leave due to personal family matters. You have to become licensed before you make any money. If you have additional skills let them know and they will put you in the right place! If you are hungry for success, a hard worker, confident speaker, very persistent and consistent, then you will excel here! Great energy and feed back to help better your skills! You get sponsored for your exams so that's probably one of good things here. You will have to study on your own and depending on the broker/advisor that takes you on, there's little to no room for failing/retaking the test. I'm being serious here, most trainees don't even pass the SIE and that's the prerequisite exam for every other financial license you'll ever take down the road. If you want to get sponsored for exams and bail after you pass them all, they have your ID and address to invoice you when you signed the agreement, plus everyone in the industry knows you're a piker. Once you slug through it all and get your licenses you will be taught to pitch for leads/new accounts and handle rejections; legit sounds like something out of Boiler Room/Wolf of Wall St, but it really works. Sounds easy, but most of your contact lists/call cards are going to be old, from like 2010-14 for instance, that has been hammered dozens of times before you even dial out, not to mention the obstacles you will face. You're going to be doing that from 8-8, M-F, on the hopes some fat cats will feel charitable and give you some cash to get the ball rolling. But before you build your book of business, the first 20 accounts will have to go to your senior because they sponsored for your licenses, that's how the business runs. So are you working for free then? No, you get paid a stipend of $1500/mo. If you're looking for things like "work culture" and "management", honestly I can say the management is pretty friendly in the branch I worked at, no real complaints. As for work culture it's work hard, play hard attitude. It might feel like a boy's club, but the problem is how the profession and industry itself weeds out folks like natural selection. Ultimately, if you're one of the blessed individuals that are natural salespersons, can survive a sink or swim workplace, and has really thick skin and grit, the job might be something up your alley. Otherwise, save yourself the hassle. I've probably seen a few dozen that join and go when I worked; most don't make it past their first stipend let alone can even stuff a Rolodex.
