Often this would look like dress up weeks, while these are fun they would tell you that half the department is not getting a raise. This includes adjusting for cost of living/inflation, in order for it to be a livable wage you have to be able to bonus. I have heard since I left they also changed the bonus structure to once a year so if you are relying on the monthly bonus that went away.
