Good benefits and plenty of work

If you’re willing to work and put up with a little bit of politics, then there isn’t many cons. No place is perfect but the new management is trying hard to change a lot of the old negative ways

Hard work for fair pay.
|
|
Lots of great people to work with. Vast employee experience allows for many OJT opportunities. It's a hard job but feels rewarding when production is complete.
|
Upper management runs a very strict budget, making acquisition of parts difficult sometimes. Deadlines can become burdensome, which has led to a rushed environment at times. Gotta stay safe.

Lots of overtime equals big pay checks
|
|
-You can be proud knowing that you are a part of fabricating a superior product.
-Great benefits package
-Free water and coffee
-PPE is always available even if not offered.
-You will always be welcome to, and most times forced, to work 55-60 hours a week if you have "available hours", Big paycheck, except the pay is very low to start.
-The QA/QC manager was the best manager I've ever had. They listen, take note and follow up. You can tell this manager cares about their employees and they are the ONLY reason I stayed as long as I did.
-There are a few employees who have been around for a long haul and they have a wealth of fabrication and inspection knowledge to learn from.
-They have scored a lot of work and will remain productive for years to come.
|
-Overall low morale and very little motivation in most departments
-Very high employee turn over
-Dirty dirty dirty. There are 2 clean bathrooms. One is in the plant managers office. The rest are disgusting.
-Safety is not taken seriously although it is advertised like it is. I have sat in on a plant level safety meeting and watched as every issue that had been raised in the last 3 years was swept under the carpet like usual, so I heard for years by the QC safety rep. You can tell the safety meetings are of great annoyance to the leadership attending. Though I have been told its getting better.
-Very low wages with very small annual raises.
In the almost 3 years I was there I saw 3 low level employees advance to "lead" but besides that there is 0% chance of advancement.
Employees are referred to by management as "tools" and if you have a complaint you are reminded "There is the door. No one's keeping you here."
Some low level management is extremely unprofessional and although it is well known, no actions by upper management have been taken to resolve the lack of professionalism.

-Where to start...Safety. With all the hours of safety training and safety meetings and town halls, the hiring of a new safety officer and the video displays on the screens around the plant, safety is still not taken seriously by most management. The only reason the Portland plant is #1 for safety is because most incidents are NOT recorded and all injuries are swept under the carpet. An injured employee will be told to come in and peel the stickers off of duct tape to not have "Time Lost". So how about you get with the real program? Please note. We have seen new employees immediately quit after realizing safety in most area's was a farce and they did not feel safe working here.
-Communication. 1-It is required by the state of Oregon to give 48 hours notice of working overtime. Historically we have been notified of Saturday work after lunch on Friday. So much for that trip to the beach with the kids.
2-Figure out who's in charge around there and let the employees know. There is currently a management limbo of sorts. Mandate that management communicate with each other before addressing the rest of the plant. The amount of conflicting information is very stressful on the employees.
3-Keep your promises even when not in writing. If an employee is told at hiring by HR and the hiring manager they will receive monetary reward as they advance at there level i.e. welder 1-2-3 or QC A-B-C-D, then keep your word and make good on the agreement.
-Over all I gave a 3 star rating because the culture and atmosphere in the QA/QC department was good for the most part. They have a solid manager, strong communication and a drive to deliver a superior product. Most of the rest of my experience was 1 star.
