Principal used to be a great place to work. They have made a steep downward slide since becoming a public company. Employees are not valued or treated well.

Phone call after phone call after phone call 8-9 hrs straight with only 17 seconds for any after call work. Poor morale. Management expects more but allows less time to accomplish task. Rigid

They say they're fun. But in reality they'll make you do things you didn't apply for, they change their policies every month at this point, and they'll find ways to fire you without reason. Managers don't care when you need them to listen and other departments are rude to each other. Lack of actual training and lack of experience from all levels. If you only have a high school diploma and lack job experience, Principal Financial is for you only.

Employment here is pretty steady and they pay an okay amount (though a lack of pay adjustment is a common complaint from employees). Advancement is tough when you are competing against your own high performing team, but it is possible.

This company could really be fantastic. The people that work there are great and the entry level jobs aren’t terrible. By the time you are ready to move up is when it gets frustrating. Asking for trainings and opportunities you have about a 10% chance of actually growing within the company. It’s so big the competition is just as bad internally as it is externally . I wish they didn’t advertise growth within as much as they do because they seem to make you wait 5+ years before moving up and trainings are few and far in between. It’s really a shame.
