The manager was nice.

The location I was hired in at only had a manager and an assistant manager- no other employees. I don’t know why these are the job titles because neither of us would have overseen anyone. If I needed a day off, it would have been completely reliant on the other employee (the manager) and only if they were able to or willing. This is not the job for you if you have children. I realised this after I signed all of my onboarding paperwork. Nothing was mentioned over the interview about this being a two person ran company. Not even until after I had all of the documents signed. I think this is something that they need to be upfront about!

Management is unaware how to do basic skills, Pushed beyond belief to get sales each week, over staffed for the area. Zero hands on training, everything’s asked to go to the computer and research on. Management is safe due to friendly relationships with upper management. Threatened daily with ‘write ups’ ‘performance concerns’ exc. .5 cent raises once a year. (even when you’re a top performer) You submit for a raise, you wait MONTHS to find out, you aren’t getting a raise. Moved to stores to ‘help train management’ preform store functions the manager is unable to do. Haven’t received a raise in two years. Empty promises. Zero opportunities for raises unless you get in tight with the higher management. Job descriptions are severely blurred.

This is a good job for Retail because the hours are 10am-6pm with major holidays and Sunday off.
|
NO ONE comes into the store everything is done either over the web and even those are slim pickings. You are forced to cold call old customers who haven't rented in years, harass them, and hope they buy something. Then you have to call on the day they are due to remind them to pay. You also need to expect to deliver and do heavy lifting because they are always needing drivers. Most of the items go to the second or third floor and half the time they do not fit. This is one of the worst jobs I've ever had but stayed so long because it's easy.

To the CEO, DVP, RVP, & DM's: THIS IS NOT 1997. Most people can walk into a Walmart and get a $500 credit line. You need to market in the 21st Century era. You need to emphasize how competitive you are with furniture and appliances. People do not know who you are. Unfortunately, your word of mouth and pile on the agreement tactics don't work anymore. People feel abused and you need to find a fresh start. If I were on the Board of Directors, I'd fire everyone one of you that's been here for over 10 years and start fresh with new business plans and great advertising. It's not the 90's, people are smarter, cold calling doesn't work anymore nor do weekly "Events."
