At times, working at Real Goods Solar felt like being on a ship without a captain. People with 6 months or less experience were promoted as high as Vice President positions inexplicably, leading to tumultuous management relationships with poor direction, only being moved out after they had crashed and burned entire teams and flushed highly skilled and talented people away to go work for other companies. That said, there is some real talent at RGS still, and hopefully upper management knows what they still have. For the most part, their Tier 1 management is top-notch and employee-focused. As the company is shifting, yes there are some hiccups however, I truly believe that the corporation with exceed all expectations in the near future. The greatest factor about this corporation is the sense of family. There are few companies I have worked for that makes you feel happy returning to office after vacation. When the company had their financials somewhat in order, they did sponsored company events. The downtown location is near transportation and convenient. The product they manufacture is really great! However, there is A Lot of negativity from the upper leadership level. Disrespectful blaming, finger pointing and talking down to employees of all levels was a regular occurrence when business wasn’t going as hoped. There were meetings to schedule meetings. So many meetings, and yet, it always felt disorganized and unproductive. I think new leadership all the way UP could make a difference there.
