Challenging and never boring
|
I was with Sabre for 32 years, going back to when we were part of American Airlines. I found it a rewarding career experience, and for the most part it had a fairly decent balance between work and home life.

Upper management is not good. Supervisors and down are decent but above supervisors are no good. Don’t fix anything, they just want to work work work until you can’t work anymore

This is a learn as you go type job. They just had a lot of lay offs so work has doubled but the pay has not. Used to be that each person was focused on a dedicated amount of hotels so it was a bit easier to learn, but since the layoffs, not as many employees or supervisors anymore and the ones that are left, have pick up all the slack. Will have access to make reservations for hotels all over the world so may get a call for a hotel you've never booked for or heard of and have to basically learn the hotel while also giving knowledge to customers of the hotel like you know, while making the reservations. Work from home majority of the time but can be stressful when there is no Supervisor online to help in situations where you have a question or a higher up is the only person who can help. So you basically have to figure it out or ask other co workers for help or send an email to the hotels telling them to helps. Also, if a supervisor is gone on vacation and that supervisor is the onlyvone that works a certain shift, we could be left without a supervisor for hours. Sometimes my full shift if no other supervisor comes on. Instead of rearranging the other supervisors schedules so that at least one is available at all times, they leave us with none. But will say they have the chat room active on their phones so will be paying attention. However, will barely get a response back. Different policies and rules from so many different hotel brands that you have to learn. Co-workers are cool, and we get along in the chat room we use to communicate but that's just a little perk in comparison to everything else. Have to work holidays and at least one weekend day. Can get out early if it's slow, about 200 hours of PTO and good benefits.

Sabre has a unique culture that values people. Compensation is above average and there are plenty of opportunities for advancement. Company has had ups and downs and multiple rounds of layoffs over the years and after each one parts of the old culture go away.

Good Experience

Despite the challenges to stay afloat and the uncertainty and difficult decisions that resulted, Sabre cared about its employees and provided great benefits. I left voluntarily over a year ago for more pay but still question my decision as the work at Sabre was more challenging and rewarding. Grass is not always greener on the other side.
