The training before work was excellent
|
I was to answer phones, and help people with problems with their dish. It was very enjoyable place to work over all. The management was very helpful. They were very inflexible with their hours. I enjoy my time there over all.

Top heavy bureaucracy hamstrung by 40 year old processes and a lack of modernization
|
This company is abysmal for anyone who wants to be happy at work. Every task is buried beneath paperwork and waiting, processes are convoluted and outdated, most of the facility has not been touched since the ‘70s, and anyone without tenure is talked down on or ignored. Every benefit has numerous arbitrary limitations and the work schedule is far from flexible. Everyone is aged and miserable.

Echostar in Atlanta was a fairly good place to work. You get to see advancement in technology and see the product go to market. We were doing well with the Set Top Box market but shifted focus to Home Automation. In my view and many of my coworkers, this was our decline.
The new project was not very marketable. The main reason that it failed is because the HARDWARE GROUP COULD NOT KEEP UP WITH SOFTWARE GROUP. The HARDWARE GROUP was not managed well and could not keep up with the pace.

I was an intern for 3 months, my last week everyone was laid off
|
OK, it was not quite that bad. They were given a month to find funding for their project before they were canned, so, everyone had time to find a new job. Work productivity crashed and no one but one guy actually tried to save the project. I am pretty sure it was some manager being a good person and spending out the last of the money allocated so people could job search rather than canning them immediately. It made sense, we were trying to make a home automation device, when 6 months latter the google home and Alexa would come out. No way our device would have successfully competed against them and someone in management probably knew that.
Actually working in the office was incredibly boring and tedious. A lot of it was bug tracing on the software build with 1+ hour build times and obscure beta-tester bug reports. Also we were in a cubicle farm, which I guess is the standard in a lot of places.

Only you can make your own opinion, the stress at that job is high, training is way to short for what you need to learn, pay could be better due to the stress

Its a call center, every call center pretty much the same. When I got hired I was told I was going to be taking Spanish calls but when you're in the floor theyll suddenly change it up on you and start getting english calls.
