The views on the modern flexible, work/life balance were often stated but not truly believed in by leadership. Despite the growing need for a company’s support for balancing personal/professional lives, it felt like walking on eggshells for those wanting to use their remote time or needing to flex their schedule. Besides that, the HR team fostered a phony work environment, especially amongst older employees’ “clique-ish” behavior. Only those that were “in” were taken care of in regard to compensation, etc. The leadership team met change with resistance and was stuck in their ways, which was frustrating for the younger generation. Communication was terrible and decisions were often made without the team’s input or with any regard to how this will impact them. “Leaders” get promoted without knowledge or experience of the role and without knowing how to speak to team members and be actual leaders – if they’re “in”, they are protected. Lastly, if you resign, they will post your backfill significantly more than what you were making, when you were told that you were at the max and there was nothing they could do. Many hard-working employees were burned out, disengaged and unhappy. Stressful work environments, management is not willing to share their knowledge with their team and is combative. Coworkers that throw you under the bus in order to keep their job. You are not looked at or respected for your skill, management makes up personal issues to fire team members that are skilled to do the job. Instead they will bring in their friends and retain them although they do not have the skill for the position. The military is having serious problems recruited Monthly lunch is provided by the company, games for team building during the summer Micromanagement by managers, managers does not know how to do the job, no training is provided once joining the company. The office is spacious and large and going to work every day wasn't the worst thing in the world. You'll need to be sharp to work here in general. Note that most of the upper management is your typical 60 year old dudes who grew up as corporate slaves and now want that for all in perpetuity. Not a lot of drama just people joined together to git ur dun. What is the best part of working at the company? Company understanding of your priorities for sites and being able to concentrate on those, prior to lesser directives. It’s nice to work for a company that agrees with what you are seeing in field and accommodating what needs done from a construction standpoint. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Setting records every quarter and quotas changing lowering bonuses every quarter? What’s up with that? If we are building more that ever, why does the bar have to raise…. Anyhow I wonder if those quotas remained after I left and they brought in two people to carry my load. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Safety and quality comes first. If both good go balls to the wall but if something changes, hit brake and correct. Mom said “The hurrier I go the behinder I get” and going fast doesn’t always get the job done correctly. Sometime you need to step back and devise a new plan of attack. SBA seemed to adapt and overcome when issue arose which set them apart from most companies I’ve worked for. At least they did when I was there. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I don’t feel like there’s much room for growth, it takes several years to move anywhere up in the company. SBA is one of the biggest site acquisition companies in the nation. The processes and skills I learned and developed while here still help me do my work today.
