Overall experience

The recruiter themselves was very helpful and provided alot of information. I had informed the recruiter and the manager on site doing the interview that I haven’t done banking in a while. I was looking to go back into banking since working retail had been a strain on me. I was nice, I showed up on time, I dressed to impressed and the manager had me wait in the lobby for our scheduled appointment.
I felt like I had answered most questions to the best of my ability and was looking for some feedback on what WE as a team can improve on. But felt that once they saw that I was rusty they just seemed to throw my interview out the window regardless of my work experience.
I’m sure there’s more knowledgeable people who can repeat job requirements from online but given the experience that I’ve had in multiple fields, I was hoping it was going to leverage towards my favor.
That being said, I understand they might not accommodate to teaching or growing, much like a lot of local banks. But I really did feel as if I was going to be a good fit, but then again I felt as if because I was Latino and also a little on the younger side that they wouldn’t want to take that risk factors. And that’s my opinion,

Terrible place to work. Racist and sexist.

The workplace culture is very pretentious. I may have come at a bad time however the collapse of the bank made sense as I did not understand the departments purpose. Wasted money setting up the department I worked in - no clear purpose.
Also a lot of friends hiring friends.

Overall SVB is a great place to work even after the bank failure and aquisition.
|
SVB technically failed in March 2023 but has bounced back very strongly after First Citizens acquisition. SVB is still a great place to work. Tremendous client focus strong commitment to tech, life sciences, venture capital and private equity, premium wineries.
However, there are areas where SVB is weak. Some of the management are not that strong and undeserving. The success of the business over the years means some managers are in a position they should not be. Also, technology at the bank is pretty weak. Efforts to "digitize" the bank have poor, entrenched leadership with little to show even after spending hundreds of millions of dollars.
Everyone (black, white, male, female, trans, etc) should all feel included, but Diversity goals outweigh merit, talent and plain old hard work.
Credit training program is top shelf - no better in the industry. Product careers are limited and slowly being automated away (engineers and product management replacing sales)
