In the perception of many, management is regarded as untrustworthy, as actions often diverge from stated commitments, and instances of straightforward deception are encountered.
Before departing from Silgan Containers to embrace retirement, I sought clarity on the tenure required to become eligible for our annual bonus. Assuring them of my willingness to remain until meeting the eligibility criteria, I consulted my supervisor. Upon his discussion with his superior, it was confirmed that I indeed met the qualifications for the bonus. My supervisor conveyed this information to me both via email and in the presence of witnesses, permitting me to conclude my stay and return home. During this period, I resided in a nearby hotel to ensure I fulfilled the requisite time to qualify for the bonus.
To my dismay, my past supervisor now asserts that my tenure fell short of the eligibility period, consequently disqualifying me from receiving the bonus. In light of this discrepancy, I have engaged in discussions with the witnesses present during the initial communication; they have expressed their willingness to corroborate the account of what transpired.
While the financial sum in question is modest, merely amounting to a few thousand dollars, the principle at stake is significant. I am inclined to pursue legal recourse to address this breach of agreement.
I have connected with an attorney and will see how it goes.
