A company that could be good but cannot hire

Massive company with lots of resources and contracts in all calibration industries

They hire at the bottom of the barrel and managers are often unfamiliar with the field they're managing. They have resources to buy other companies but never bring them into the Transcat structure because it would increase employee pay. They approve budgets but don't like the money spent. They cannot keep employees, from the time I was hired until the time is left (1.5 years) I had 4 managers pass through the position and the 5th and final had never managed the job my coworkers and I did and would go to his managers about issues instead of employees to see if they were even issues.

A growing company, but with lots of growing pains

Really depends on where you are I guess. Some people are nice. Benefits are ok, but could be better.

As a nationwide company, Transcat has labs all over and it seems like there is no consistency between any of them. The managers all run things differently and treat the people that work under them differently. The pay is also all about what your manager will give you. I've heard that as long as you can be a 24/7 brownnosser, then maybe they'll consider speaking up for you. There never seems to be enough people in any department to handle the amount of work. Not sure if they are trying to keep costs low or what, but it puts a strain on everyone. Managers talk about advancement opportunities (going from a tech 1 to tech 2) but I only know a few people who have actually been put on a path for promotion. The overall support from the corporate office is next to nothing. I don't think they really understand what the employees actualyl do. The HR department doesn't seem to have a clear idea of what they should be doing and trying to get an answer from someone usually turns into getting bounced between 3 or 4 people before someone will give you an answer. I think they must have had a series of changes in the past year or so because people have different titles now, but it doesn't matter because they still are unhelpful and clueless as ever. Also seems like they have a hard time holding onto people on the team, which might be telling.

Flexibility is very good and very easy to work with personal life situations.

The pay is low and no promotions unless buddies with management. Management pick and choose who gets raises and promotions and don't care how long you've been loyal to the company. They push quality but they really want quantity and unless customers complain then they really don't care how the units go out the door. Everyone uses shortcuts, but if they don't want you they will find any excuse to let you go. Pressure is very high and technicians are over worked and leads to some taking shortcuts.
