Wonderful, supportive people to work with, who deserve more than they’re given IMO

Constant hurdles to get sales, working against rather than alongside other teams. Knowledge and experience essentially meant nothing if I couldn’t get companies to discount down to bleeding point. HR completely non existent when you’re going through a hard time.

Rehire your HR - no one checks in with you to see how you are when you’ve emailed them to explain what’s going on. The silence killed any chance of me staying. Change your sales format - you won’t get tour companies or sustainable companies on board if you’re asking them to make a loss in order to work with TZ.

Good office facilities. Friendly executive-level colleagues in Asia who are easy to work with. They were a major reason for staff retention - before the Asia office shut down.

So many Singapore staff have left Travelzoo due to mismanagement of staff. The sales department would undermine the production development's work at every turn, instead of working together towards feasible KPIs. Then again, feasible KPIs are impossible. Travelzoo's business is not sustainable in Asia. Simply look at its financial reports and lack of brand recognition. Newsletter readership is low, and there is little marketing of the website. Do your friends and family know of this brand? If not, how would it even be possible for them to expand in Asia, let alone Singapore? The travel industry was tough given the COVID-19 situation, and now is dominated by the same OTAs - A, B, H, and T - so give this a pass. Or go for a more established brand with a bigger Singapore presence.

There exists an abundance of rationales for abstaining from employment here - paltry remuneration, absence of advancement opportunities, malevolent higher-ups, and a culture of desperation among the staff, leading to idea theft and backstabbing. However, the most recent PR stunt reeks of an exaggerated sense of moral rectitude.
The unveiling of the "Travel For Tomorrow" initiative, years subsequent to the entire spectrum of travel brands declaring their allegiance to sustainability, arrives following repeated assertions by the proprietors disavowing the reality of climate change (among other contemporary social causes). What's more, this unveiling comes a mere week after ferrying their progressively diminishing global workforce to Venice for one night... cringeworthy, to say the least.
