Udemy is full of very intelligent engineers. If you want a place where you can solve interesting scaling challenges, this is it. There are a few growing pains with some ongoing migrations, but nothing that you wouldn't come across elsewhere. Everyone there is very willing to help which, along with the great onboarding docs, creates a welcoming environment for newcomers. Company culture is definitely a high point and they have a nice work life balance with flexible time off.

Great product, lots of opportunity

Udemy is very well positioned, brilliant product and the potential to be the leading provider of employee development solutions in the world. There are some growing pains, a lot of operational bits could be better and some leaders could do with upskilling themselves. There's a very old school approach to the sales org, most of the leaders seem to come from the same one or two orgs (Dell/Qualtrics) and make a lot of claims about bring mission driven, coaching at all levels etc but there is very few leaders who are actually good a coaching. A lot of good people though, good opportunities for growth and there's a lot of positives in the future if you can weather the storm of the current economic dip.

Nepotism and lack of leadership skills

I will not recommend anyone coming with a gigantic experience for a mid mgmt position as the people in Udemy at Leadership positions are hired from Skillsoft and Oracle, and they hire their ex-colleagues whom they have worked with in the past orgs which means there's a monopoly. And it's difficult for an outsider to make their mark.
The leadership team lacks basic communication skills and absolutely irrational in explaining a basic why! They get offended and that reflects in their speech, tone and their body language. It's a pathetic place to work. They got a hire n fire strategy.
