There are absolutely no pros to working here Everything.... The owners are from Israel and only speak in their language when they're near you, when they're having a meeting with you, when they're arguing during work. They speak to you like you're a child and even yell at you. If you have ask any questions, they will show you the door of the office to let you know you can leave if you don't want to work here. They have no benefits even though their ad specifically says benefits. They have no PTO, no holiday pay, no 401k, no medical benefits, etc. THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT! They treat you like a slave and blame you for everything that's wrong with the company. They have 4 cameras watching you in one room, and will still accuse you of leaving a minute early, and take it upon themselves to deduct hours from your paycheck. You are also not allowed to take 10 minute breaks without clocking out even though it's a California state law to allow your employees to take 2-10 minute paid breaks. You have to clock out for lunch, and if you work over time, they will not pay you, even though they make you work over time. They cause you stress, anxiety, and are extremely disrespectful. They have so many new hires because no one wants to work for them. I'll sum up my experience here as follows: I am surprised how she is even in business. Most of the money comes from her husbands's engineering business so I'm guessing that is how she conduct a business so poorly. She complained and wanted my coworker and I to clock out for a 10min break, just wants you to make calls all day to bring her business, complains when you can't get ahold of buyers but even when you do she won't go to a meeting in another city unless you've booked 3 or more for that day, her husband and her ask you questions about how YOU can bring in more business to them and shut down whatever you say or say they've already tried it (so why even ask), she shuts down the office whenever she wants to go on vacation so too bad for you and your bills if you're left out of work for a week, will sit behind you to just watch you make you calls, if you leave 2 minutes before your normal time she assumes you've stopped working way before then and basically wants to rob you of an hour of pay (happened to a coworker), and just overall the LEAST professional and caring business. They don't care about employee turnover since they've gone through many employees before us. How do expect to have people who want to help you grow your business when you treat them so poorly. To the man, I'm not sure if you talked down to us the way you did because where you come from the man is dominant and you feel someone entitled to act superior and like you know everything because of that. To the woman, I'm not sure if you treated us as lowly as you did because you're not used to having a real voice. Even when you were going to close the position, you didn't even say anything directly, you sent your husband's HR guy to do it for you and you left without saying a word. Cowardly. Hopefully you take into consideration how you are supposed to run a business and stop exploiting your employees. You didn't even want to offer direct deposit for us. You only had 3 employees. Sometimes we wouldn't even get the check in time. But yet, you guys own like 4 BMWS. Greedy. It’s taken me a lot of time to muster up the proper words over my experience at Calinana. I thought perhaps maybe waiting after I left would change my opinion, but the thought of my experience only makes me physically shake my head in disagreement and at the same time grinning with joy that I’m not longer bound to the greedy impatient entity that is Calinana, more specifically, the owner and her husband. The details of my story require a lot of attention so the best thing to do is to regurgitate a summary of the experience. When I first interviewed, they offered me a position on the spot (the interview itself took 4 hours and this occurred on a Monday). I asked if it’s ok to give a response by the end of the week because I have been interviewing at several places and I didn’t want to rush into any company or position that wouldn’t fit right. Yes, they gave me more time – LIKE ONE DAY, they wanted to know my decision by mid-day the next day. Fearful on not coming upon not receiving any offer, I agreed the next day and they wanted me working on Wednesday. WOW. I should have suspected something foul from this impatient behavior but my arrogance lead me to believe perhaps they really liked me. Suspiciously I accepted the job and hit the ground running. I was promised a great work life balance and my work schedule was generally 8-5 or a mixture as long as I put the hours in. So if I were to come in at 8:30, I could leave at 5:30. This was perfect; it worked because the traffic to Irvine is stupid. 2 months into working, I arrive 8:20 (this was my first time doing this) and the owner calls me and lectures me (yes like a child) about how I should never do that again although her Husband was the negotiator of these terms she seemed to disagree with. They also seem to always forget the original plan set in motion and occurrences like that only seem to keep going. The owner will demand that something get done her way and against your professional recommendation you do it because she demands it. When you do what she ask and the results were poor she’ll yell “Why did you do that” Or “This isn’t good” it was all very contradictory behavior, worse than dealing with a 2 year old child. The owner would just blame others on her poor decisions. During meetings, they would ask for ideas, when any ideas that she didn’t like were shared she would literally laugh in your face. This was way worse than Regina George from mean girls, like there is no actual constructive feedback given nor is there any recognition on any positive results. Another odd and awkward thing to experience was when both husband and wife would speak to each other during a meeting in their native tongue…uhhh..rude? What broke the camels’ back for me was when I discovered that the warehouse girls in the back weren’t getting paid for over time. One of the main girls in charge in the back left because of this and in a mere couple of days, the entire team all agreed that there was something out there much more deserving and compassionate of our skillset. It’s extremely disappointing because I put so much time and effort into growing this company and all they did was set more and more unrealistic expectations. Yes I feel like I failed but that’s because I was set up to fail with their impatient goals, radically greedy and unfit approach towards business. Although this job compensated me extremely well, it was not worth the hives I started developing or the anxiety. There are plenty of blogs out there that give an accurate depiction and time frame of how long things take in the Ecommerce world. Or maybe you should read a book on compassion, which might actually do you justice in the long run. Treat your employees fairly and speak to them like adults, not like your children. Safe parking lot, Friday lunch, very quiet office. Absolutely no training at all in anything, employers do not care about personal growth/health/family/life, promise employees full benefits and later say none of that exists. Unfair racial treatment, talks down on employees, adds way more tasks than agreed tasks, hypes up employee about potential raise, higher salary, more hours but none of that happens. Expectations are sky high and once the expectation seems to be fulfilled, employers find every reason to try and be unfair with it. When employer speaks to employees, there is a definitive lack in respect. Definitely unfair treatment to the hispanic ladies in the back of the office. I believe it may be a fire hazard to keep to many people working in a small space with the door shut. Employers speak perfect english to employees when needed and speak in their own language even with the employee in front of them. Keeps employees over time and is unwilling to pay the over time (instructs to not log in on the time card). Promises are not kept and acts like no such promise/agreement was ever existent. Most employees never stayed for over a year. Very unprofessional.
