This is a great company to get your foot in the door and gain some banking experience, but there is not very much room for advancement within the company. The compensation is kind of lacking for the industry but they will tell you it's because of the ESOP. Like another reviewer said, you are only scheduled 37.5 hours per week under the guise of "work life balance" but you wish you could work 40 because the pay is lacking so it doesn't really matter anyway. My experience with the work culture is pretty positive. I've had good interactions with management. They seem to really care and want to correct issues. Overall I would say my experience at WaterStone was generally positive but I wouldn't really consider it a place to stay for very long if you want to move up and receive actual worthwhile raises and promotions for your efforts. Terrible management who loved to micro manage. don’t work here if you want to be anything like yourself. not good pay. Benefits are ok at best. The only reason I lasted so long was because I liked my coworkers and I was having a hard time finding a job. Your managers do not want you to succeed, they just want you to show the company that THEY can succeed. Ridiculously long meetings with the people in the same position as you that mean nothing. Turnover rate is insane. People get fired or not considered for the jobs for STUPID reasons like an arm tattoo that can be covered. Products are not good so it’s hard to sell them. The entire company is very retro. The technology is not even close to being up to date (on consumer and employee side). Constantly working open-closes without a lunch break. No work/home life balance at all. Constantly promised growth but help back for stupid reasons. There is a lot of required “volunteering” that you don’t get paid for. Will always hire from outside the company and not within. Coworkers & CEO is a nice guy. You have to pass a certification to get bonuses as a banker. The certifiers are not certified themselves and are not clear on the requirements. High bonuses given to executive management. Its a trash local bank with outdated internal systems. Complete joke. ● Pay & benefits The annual bonus? 50$ gift card. ● Overall Want to be a banker? Want to get more money for your work? You have to be certified. The certifiers are not certified and are not clear on testing. One of two banks that requires certifications for their bankers to be paid commissions. Its low grade local bank thats far outpaced by national banks. Wages are low. Employees not appreciated and underpaid. Stressful work. Where do the bonuses go? Corporate executives. If you're new to it, or need a job....I mean, go for it. Don't expect much. They mean well, but aren't equipped to pull it off. Will cut corners to save face, at the expense of those who are not management. Their bread and butter to attract applicants is low cost of insurance and shorter work week. The insurance doesn't cover much and you'll end up wanting the extra hours due to low pay. "Insurance" Management, favoritism. Lots of busy work, with a steady increase in sales focus at the teller line. Their onboarding team in HR and training is very positive and welcoming. Office atmosphere and management style varies from branch to branch. Decent benefit package. They really stress that their hourly wage is fair when you factor in $50/month (one person) healthcare. (What it covers is another story) Sick days and vacation days are combined into one amount of PTO. They donate to various causes in the community and sponsor events that cater to their aging, white, middle to upper class customer base. (Polish Fest, military band concerts, etc) Not a bad thing, but they might want to diversify if they want to expand their customer base both the City of Milwaukee and a younger demographic.
