Not many to speak of. Some of the people were very nice. Others, not so much.

Upper management needs to get their act together. I was hired as a remote contractor with the promise of being made an employee within 3 months. Three months came and went and I was told there was a hiring freeze which wasn't officially announced until 2 months later. Then they made everyone start coming into the office 3 days a week, even though I was hired as a remote worker. They treat contractors like garbage. They had a holiday party that we couldn't attend. They send announcements to employees only when the weather is bad telling them that they don't have to come in but don't bother telling the contractors. They start up a new agile effort and then abandon it 6 months later even thought it was working just fine. I had such high hopes for this company and came away profoundly disappointed. I was lucky to find something else and I don't miss a thing about working at Ameren.

Pay attention to your workers - both employee and contractors. In my case, I was brought in as a lead and was helping train employees who needed help. Then when jobs got cut, you kept the employees who didn't know what they were doing and got rid of contractors who did.

Retirement benefits are unbeatable, 401k match up to 4.5% plus pension contribution based on employee's age. Health care is better than average. Recently created a parental leave policy, 12 weeks paid for women, even men get 6 weeks. Sick time is very generous. On the whole, benefits package is very hard to beat.

Recently began requiring all employees to come into the office 3d/week. Not all departments actually have enough space for this, so working conditions aren't great. The cost cutting in response to regulatory challenges in IL seems fairly extreme. Upper management appears to be somewhat disconnected from the ground level. There's also a lack of transparency. Strong performers are often frustrated as opportunity for advancement essentially requires waiting for a position above you to be vacated and this can take many years.
