Cloudera and Hortonworks officially merged on January 3rd, 2019.
Cloudera’s story began in 2008, with a melding of some of the brightest minds from Silicon Valley’s leading companies, including: Google (Christophe Bisciglia), Yahoo (Amr Awadallah), Oracle (Mike Olson), and Facebook (Jeff Hammerbacher). Today, Cloudera has over 1,600 employees across the globe. Our commitment to excellence in big data management has earned us numerous awards and accolades—including the 2014 and 2015 Database Trends and Applications Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for best analytical platform, and Glassdoor's 2016 Best Places to Work for Small and Medium Businesses.
In 2009, Doug Cutting, co-creator of Hadoop, joined the company as Chief Architect—a role he remains in today. And in 2013, Tom Reilly became Chief Executive Officer. Tom also serves as our Chairman of the Board and Chief Strategist.
Why open source matters:
Since its inception, Cloudera has been strongly committed to a community-driven, open source Hadoop distribution because of its practical benefits for customers.
In addition to offering the benefits of open source, Cloudera has led the way to work with customers to ensure that their performance, availability, security, and recoverability needs are met in the open source platform, beginning with its first involvement with Hadoop.
