The pay is great, they train you pretty well but it’s high stress environment and very long hours which can be tough. Especially over night shifts 12+ hours

Its amazing ti work at Cn but you have to do some sacrifices. It is a way of life. You spend almost half of your life outside on rails and half with your family. But again it is good money

You will be worked like a dog
You will have to fight for raises to match inflation. Might even have to strike.
You will be required to start with an on call schedule with a permanent schedule taking years or even decades to achieve, depending on your seniority.
The people are all stressed out and miserable.
The managers let all the mistakes flow downhill.
Stay away unless getting a +100k salary a year is worth destroying your mental and physical health for decades.

Pay was the only good thing about working there.

I enjoyed the job, as I have no life. If it was just about being good at what you do, and doing it, I would still be there. Sadly, not the case. Severely mismanaged, departments are combative with one another. They "Hire you to Fire you" is a popular saying. You will be treated as a liar, and a potential criminal for your duration of employment. There's a good reason they can only retain less than 20% of new hires. It's not a difficult job in the least, its simply more headache than the pays worth to listen to transportation washouts, that can barely pass rules, lecture you in a tribunal fashion about mistakes a coworker made. I should have left years ago, especially considering my initial orientation included where the trainmasters take naps. If you want to find supply chain issues and why your grocery bills are so high, look no further.
