Pay & benefits Pay was way below what a person of my expertise should have earned since my job had to do with a certain chemistry that had to be mixed to maintain etching bath integrity. I also had to work with many hazardous chemicals throughout my entire career with Crane. Overall The early years were great, good pay, a management that cared. But through the years the company changed hands a couple times and things went downhill from there, pay cuts, loss of 401k matches, and minuscule pay raises if any that would not even cover cost of living. They don't care if people that work on the floor (the talent that makes everyone else look good by producing the finished product) come and go or if the printing talented people leave. They did look after their employees at one time, back when I started there. Having come from the start-up world myself, this 200-year-old company functions much like a start-up would without the frantic, and often over-romanticized, “fast-paced” environment. Each day we’re moving more quickly as a team, but there is a common understanding of wanting to do right by our customers and our company. There is a small team of us in New York and we work as closely as possible with the larger company in North Adams, MA often making trips there to collaborate in person. Individuals own their respective areas, but there is much to be done and the more hands in on moving us forward the better! It’s enjoyable to contribute to the new evolution of a brand, but there is still the often messy middle involved with such a large undertaking. I knew everyone from the front to the back. There are a lot of hard workers but there all just that workers. From The supervisors to the managers and up they are very poor in there decision making. It's all about them getting a raise, a bonus or just making there job easier. The middle of the road workers are stuck where they are and will never advance to where they should. As for everything else, the healthcare is expensive compared with the pay. When the healthcare costs half your check or Better. there not doing enough. As for the future it's a dying industry and too small to sustain even one large company. There are better run small companies out there that will fill the void in the market when crane is gone. I already see it now. So if you need a job and not a career. It's as good as anything else out there but if your young and are looking for that last job. Keep looking.
