I would not ever think about returning to Equity Residential

What is the best part of working at the company?
It used to be a great place to work. Now they are all about numbers and don’t really care about the employees
What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unrealistic expectations. Attempting to close out 15 work orders minimum, finish 2-3 make readies a day ( in-house painting and in-house carpet cleaning), keep up on curb appeal and amenities that residents destroy every day along with all other administrative tasks with a 2 man team is not realistic especially when it’s an A class property.
What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful and hated going to work
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Walk the property and grounds, pick up trash and pet waste, put out robot vacuum and pool vacuum, check emails and make ready schedule, check move in and move out schedule, start on make readies, walk completed make readies daily, start work orders after lunch, try to finish said work orders after lunch, consistently check in with management throughout the day letting them know every detail of what is being worked on and completed, re-walk grounds and amenities, work on anything needing to be ordered, work on SODAS, check on maintenance team throughout the day, and so much more

After nearly a decade with the company, I have nothing but respect for this organization. As long as you have a manager that is competent and genuinely cares about their team, you will succeed. It is very competitive in promotions and knowing the right people helps. My time spent there was not wasted. It’s a great company to work for as long as you work hard and stay hungry to learn.

The budgets were tight, so many steps to get approvals at times

Great culture, supportive teams.
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Structured, however EQR has moved to a customer self service base which has freed up staffing responsibilities. EQR has Great ideas!

As a regional accountant my day is pretty full with balances, ledgers, research, etc. I have learned a lot about real estate and property management. The culture is wonderful, there are holiday gift exchanges, work parties and rewards events. Each person seems to care about the next person.
Also having a hybrid work schedule works great as someone coming from full time WFH. Managers are all very nice and helpful I have never had a problem with any of them. Work is deadline based and I haven't had any experiences with micromanaging as I have with other jobs. Its a joy to come to work each day.
There are major growth opportunities as well since the company has a presence throughout the country with many different positions. Hardest part of my job is learning things that are real estate related, as I know account and new to real estate, but every day is a learning experience and the support is unmatched!

Great Benefits. Depending on the community you work in, you will have lots of opportunities to make great money on commissions. The only downside is dealing with disgruntled residents. If you have great customer service skills, this position is highly rewarding.
