When you do need support you have a bunch of people who like to hear themselves talk. Not friendly, nor approachable and when called out they cower. Not my cup of tea, say what you mean, do what you say is how I live can’t say that about most of these employees. I don’t think I’ll last long here, I say what I mean and most don’t enjoy my personality. If you get promoted to a manager the standards change and a different level of maintaining must be achieved. The level and standards of clean change based upon if you're an assistant manager or site manager. If you become a district team lead your standards of clean change again. But with each level you're not told how they change you're just told you need to maintain your facility better. Direction is only given verbally, and instead of showing how it is to be cleaned they verbally say that's not good enough. Don't think the job is easy, it is lazy if you do. A lot more goes into your day because at extra space they don't want you to be in the office they want you to be out on the property. If you spend too much time in the office that gets questioned. But then they also want you to maintain the files for moveouts, auction units, leads, delinquents and most importantly those callbacks on your leads need to be done within 10 minutes. Even though they do say you can have up to 15 if you're with a customer and you take over your 15 minutes it still is a strike against you. This isn't a job that one would necessarily want to move up in, but it's an added plus if it happens. It's great for learning about property management if you're interested in real estate. I am fortunate to not have to travel to different sites weekly, but other assistants do. Not all stores have assistants on a daily basis, nor do all assistants work with store managers on a daily basis. Be prepared to work by yourself a lot. The experience you gain from working as an assistant here can propel you further with another storage company or otherwise. DTLs act annoyed when you ask for help and seem to scold more than anything. They never bother to ask you why something happens. They just tell you what they think you did wrong. Wrong priorities. You are bounced around to multiple locations and can never make headway or know the problems of a specific site because you're not there long enough. They never train you on how to handle problems. They never fix the urgent needs of a facility. Lots of lip service and no action. Work is easy. Combines a fair amount of outside work vs office. They will let you go for ridiculous reasons. They let over 4 co-workers go because they had been with the company too long and therefore made too much income. Company gave the most insane reason to fire. "stayed after work till 9pm on property". Car wasn't starting and waiting for a friend to get off work for a jump. None No team support. Met alotof different people from different cultures. Unfortunately upper management had some issues. Alot of the team were NOT team oriented so it made the jib a little harder and frustrating. This company, by far, exceeds expectations of any other self storage company. They are very supportive, the pay is excellent and the bonuses are exceptional. The trainer I had was thorough. What is the best part of working at the company? Working alone and being in the right district. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Having to prove yourself to a failing DM to become a DMIT with almost 20 years as a DM with a previous company. In addition, having to deal with the gossipy peers and finding out that the “he said, she said” theory still exists; is quite shameful! What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Numbers focused! Your DM will be numbers focused because of their quarterly bonuses. They say “work and life balance” but be prepared to not have consecutive days off! What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful.
