This was amazing for my first couple years, but... I'm not sure what has happened with management. Everyone is so unpredictable now. They fired a group of people one day and held a call to let everyone know these people were told not to return. This was once an amazing place to work but now it is just a sad story. I would beg anyone to not join this "team." It feels as if everyone working here is only here until they can find somewhere to leave to. Amazing work family. Amazing benefits, Amazing management. In August 2023, the rampant decline of the company that had been my professional home for over 11 years commenced. The introduction of a Return to Office initiative marked the first sign of significant organizational changes. This initiative required all employees who had previously worked in branch locations before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to return to those locations within a specified timeframe. While I was initially receptive to this directive, given my prior in-office work arrangement and close proximity to my assigned office, the situation took a disheartening turn. Simultaneously with the announcement of the Return to Office initiative, management revealed the issuance of Early Retirement Offers to eligible associates in the ensuing weeks. The landscape shifted later in August when the Return to Office orders underwent modification, resulting in the revocation of remote work arrangements for all hires. Employees were presented with the options of residing within the bank's footprint, self-financed relocation to the footprint, or facing a predetermined termination date. Notably, two of my teammates, initially hired fully remote during COVID, found themselves living outside the footprint. Management deemed one of these two individuals lived within the footprint and could undertake a daily commute of approximately three hours or face resignation or termination. Unsurprisingly, the prospect of a 3-hour daily commute led to the resignation of one teammate. Teammate #2 was granted an 8-month window before their last day, enabling them to secure alternative employment at another institution and tender their resignation independently. Despite the issuance of Early Retirement Offers to many employees, a significant number opted to remain with the company. Regrettably, on October 16, 2023, due to an insufficient acceptance of the Early Retirement Offers, management implemented a sweeping layoff, affecting 50 employees. This mass exodus resulted in the loss of invaluable experience and all of these items mentioned prior proved to be a traumatic events for the entire workforce. The consequential decisions made by management, coupled with a perceived lack of empathy for employees, severely impacted my motivation and trust in the company. The disregard exhibited raised questions about the sustainability of my own position and prompted reflections on the abrupt upheavals experienced by numerous colleagues. Consequently, I made the decision to seek alternative employment and, fortunately, secured a position at another institution before personally experiencing any distressing events. Given the current state of management affairs, I find it difficult to endorse FirstBank as a commendable place of employment. My personal experience and the observed treatment of colleagues lead me to discourage potential employment at FirstBank. No longer the "Community" bank they preach. Within the last year, the bank has changed drastically. It almost seems to have stemmed from one acquisition that made them grow real fast real quick. However, management has continued to preach the "community banking" lifestyle while turning extremely corporate. The changes came quick without warning or employee input. The company offered a hybrid work schedule for non customer facing employees, as well as hired employees as fully remote. After multiple meetings and people asking the CEO directly, "Will we be forced back into the office when the new headquarters is completed?" and his answer always being "No" all employees were forced back into the offices with no exceptions. Those hired to be fully remote had to come into an office, those with medical reasons were forced back into the office, those with special needs children with multiple appointments were forced back into the office. This led to many associates, even of upper level, to resign. At the same time, the company offered a voluntary retirement plan to "rightsize" the company. When not enough associates took part in that, blindsiding layoffs occurred to keep the company afloat after forcing everyone in office and increasing overhead expenses. One reason to have everyone back to the office was to boost morale. I have never seen a more depressing workplace than when everyone was back in the new multi-million dollar downtown office. Morale was LOW, and that is something that is hard to gain back from employees. The company can spend millions on new office space and millions on naming rights for a football stadium, but can't keep employees. Prior to the major changes, there were frustrations with the company. Their benefits are terrible and expensive. The HR department made mistakes, admitted them, but did nothing to correct, and were not helpful in multiple instances. I was reprimanded multiple times for not wasting time to have superiors relay messages instead of me going directly to the source. You cannot speak to people above your pay grade.
