Causing the layoff Great place until the layoff. Only worked for them in Nevada though. They had a very good job package, fair to the company and the employees, with a profit share and silver share program that the company came up with to keep us working even when times get lean, instead of losing employees to lay-offs, and when times are good we all share in the profits. When the contract came up for renewal in March of 2016 all we wanted was to keep the contract we had. Everyone (company and employees) still benefiting from profits being made at the Lucky Friday Mine. However the company made it clear that they wanted to strip the contract on virtually every aspect (job bidding, insurance, vacation, holidays etc.). In March 2017 the company implemented a portion of the contract that they wanted. That is when we voted to go on strike. The union has been trying to negotiate a fair contract ever since, but Hecla is not budging. So keep in mind if you decide the Lucky Friday Mine is a place you would like to work you will be crossing our United Steel Workers picket line to do so. Until further notice. Taking a job at the Lucky Friday means crossing a picket line and taking the jobs of employees who have been out on strike for almost 2 years. The safety of the miners is a big holdout for the dispute. Under current management, there is a Labor Dispute going on for the last 2 years. This was back before they decided to try and strip the employees contract leaving us hanging out in the cold. Keep in mind you will have to cross our United Steelworkers Workers picket line, until further notice!
