While working here, I learned how to navigate around Excel, Microsoft, and the importance in treating client. Management could be a bit absent at times - though when you need help, they are there to help support. Workplace culture could be seen as nonexistent, since most office employees are working independently in their own space. I was here long enough to observe how the workplace culture is: it could be seen as "cliquey" and although you are working independently in a cubicle, you will feel as if you are walking on eggshells. The hardest part of the job is pushing yourself to learn new things and it is tough to work your way up quickly. Despite the allure of competitive pay, the overall experience has been overwhelmingly negative. The workload at Howmet Aerospace is excessively heavy, with expectations far exceeding the resources and support provided by management. This imbalance contributes to a stressful environment where long hours become the norm, not the exception. Unfortunately, the support from upper management feels almost non-existent, as their focus seems primarily fixed on pleasing shareholders and enriching the C-suite. The company culture is starkly antiquated and exclusive, making it difficult for diverse voices to be heard or valued. Inclusivity is not a priority here, which stifles innovation and employee satisfaction. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a bygone era, seemingly stuck in the 1960s, complete with outdated practices and attitudes towards workplace modernization and employee engagement. The physical state of a majority of the facilities at Howmet Aerospace is disheartening. Despite promises of improvement, the reality is a workplace with crumbling infrastructure and a desperate need for renovation. The furniture in many areas is not only dated but visibly worn and uncomfortable, which hardly inspires professionalism or comfort. Moreover, the bathrooms, albeit clean, often have malfunctioning plumbing, making even basic amenities unreliable. The recruitment process is misleading, showcasing the most polished and modernized areas like Plant 1, while the actual working conditions in other areas are dismal. New hires are often shocked at the contrast, finding themselves working in environments that can only be described as squalid. There is a noticeable lack of effort in fostering a community or promoting team spirit. The company does not organize any events to bring employees together, which contributes to a disjointed feeling across different plants. Each plant operates as if it were a separate entity, yet employees are expected to collaborate effectively without the necessary support or cohesion. The cumulative effect of these conditions has left me and many of my colleagues deeply disappointed. It is disheartening to find oneself needing to start over with a new employer due to such adverse working conditions. The decision to leave by myself and other team members is not made lightly, especially by those who have invested years in the company, hoping for improvements that never materialize. If you are considering a role at Howmet Aerospace, it is worth taking these points into account and perhaps seeking employment elsewhere. The issues mentioned are not just minor grievances but fundamental flaws that significantly impact daily life and long-term career satisfaction at the company. Prospective employees should look for organizations that truly value their workforce and provide a modern, supportive environment. People used to line up like you were in line to get tickets for a popular singer. Not anymore. The wages they wave in front of your nose IS NOT worth the anxiety, stress, and simply put, mind games. They expect you to be at a certain level of achievement YET, their standardized work is a hot mess. Things implemented long before the "updated" version, however, it is NOT in the work instructions. This could explain why they have gone through SEVERAL people, in that position, since I was railroaded out the door. I finally gave in and left my job of two years and started there. I really enjoyed the job and worked really hard to prove my worth, I was never late and always back in time from break. After a month of employment, I was pulled aside and told that I wasn’t gonna make it in the department and they were letting me go. I tried talking to HR to see if I could try a different department and got completely ignored. They treated me like royalty during orientation but treated me like I was nothing after. I would never in my life recommend anybody working here and suggest every person has a solid backup plan. I was so caught off guard by them letting me go and didn’t have any backup jobs. My current job is very happy with Howmets decision because I quickly became one of their best workers. Great benefits, great pay, treated like a human and felt like the company actually cared about you. The ONLY thing this company cares about anymore is money and how much more they can make. Middle and lower management is - for the most part- pretty great. A lot of them have been there long enough to still resemble what Howmet used to be. But the new upper management is HORRIBLE. They are not afraid to make it blatantly clear that you are only there to make them and the shareholders more money. The amount of corners that get cut - especially in quality - is ALARMING. They do not care about the process of the work, but rather how they can push you and work you harder to get it done faster. People constantly getting hired in making more $$ than those that have been there for years and are responsible for training the new people making more than them. Complete lack of accountability. Management does not have a clue how processes actually work, and they make it clear that they don’t care. They just want parts out the door as fast as possible. This place will drain your soul.
