Not a good place to work because a lot of work and less money. You might get newer tractor but no money. Life & work very much unbalanced if you’re OTR driver. It’s really miserable life working for Knight Transportation because it’s a big company, and they don’t have human values.
Please be careful before you sign up for Knight Transportation.

Good starting company, easy
|
No touch freight and mostly drop & hook. Refrigerated loads seem to have a lot of waiting at the docks. New and newer model KWs, Freightliners, Internationals and Volvos. Company transitioning out trailers that are older than 10 years old. Most trailers are only a few years old. My terminal staff are great people and very willing to support drivers however they can. No force dispatch is also a plus so no added stress if you as driver feel unsafe to drive due to weather conditions or equipment. Company uses PrePass so I get green light at many of the scales. Only down side is low miles (could be due to the markets) equating to low pay and the zip-code to zip-code instead of actual practical mileage.

This company who run it only care about their pockets. They don’t care about neither drivers or office. Worked for them for 6 years and they lied to me several times. Relocated me multiple times with no incentive and no choice. Office environment is beyond inhumane, people will call you yell and scream when your a driver manager. They expect you to know it all in 2 weeks. Terminal managers are lazy and pretend they care, the more you start understanding the job they keep handing you responsibilities after another with same pay. I was doing ops managers responsibilities for a year and they wouldnt give me the title or pay. I was promised the role multiple times but never received it. I left and went to a less stress and higher paying company

Just get experience!

When I first started with Knight 2 years ago I loved it but within the past year everything just turned into a mess literally.The Savannah Terminal is a joke. They will not dispatch you for days and you will not hear from them. They expect you to beg for work .Definitely alot of favoritism, they’ll say it’s no work but it’s 2- 3 drivers doing about 6 turns a day. The pay is a joke . They don’t care I mean they still get paid salary rather drivers are working or not. If you threaten to quit they will promise you more work THAT THEY BARELY EVEN HAVE! The yard is like ghost town , Its never no work. It’s better out there trust me. Only thing I loved was the flexibility can work whenever you want .

I just returned to Knight on one condition that I’d finally be able to bring my daughter out with me to make up for time on the road again. I just found out they raised the rider age from 10-12. This company doesn’t care about its employees (drivers or office) all they care about is money and buying up as many companies as they can.

Don't come here if you have experience
|
Had a good driver manager who kept me rolling. The company itself does not care about you as they just pull more drivers from schools. The layover and detention are pitiful, $75 and $15 hr.No paid holidays. Low cpm, in the 40's to start.

Unprofessional, Rude, Inarticulate Terminal Manager and Safety DDM
|
Management here is rude, inarticulate, and unprofessional! There is unfair treatment and unequal pay amongst drivers. They hire you under false conditions that you will be a local port runner but try to force you to do OTR. I expected better from this company and had a very poor experience. People are in positions because of who they know and not what they know or how they do their jobs. If you are outspoken and know your rights they will try to do their best to find a way to terminate you.

The Savannah terminal management team only cares about their salary and OTR drivers, You’ll make $800 or less locally if you aren’t a favorite driver, You have to beg for work instead of it being offered daily, you can’t trust management, low pay

Trash miles. More time sitting and no one cares. Cant afford to live off of 1000 miles a week. Have to many drivers and not enough frieght and still hiring more.

The company will threaten to fire you for putting your truck in the shop
|
They refuse to fix their trucks when you put them in the shop. They do not care about their driver's safety (letting them ride around with bad brakes) and they do not pay you properly. They SAY you make $0.49 a mile but they barely pay out half of that

24/7 trucking company?

Dispatch is 7am-5pm ONLY. Hope you don't need after hours support- the canned response is, "Sorry there is nothing I can do. Call your office between the hours of 7am-5pm."
Safe harbor policy doesn't allow for "sitting duck" only terminals and truck stops for your breaks, but the terminals are set up like used car lots. Trucks and trailers for sale are the priority and take up most of the space at the terminal.
