my time at life storage was great, everyone was very flexible and understanding.
|
it was a bit difficult to work from home, but that was the time we were living in.

No longer life storage
|
|
I enjoyed my job when I was a part of LifeStorage, they have merged with extra space, and they are no longer a happy place.
|
Extra space handled the merger very poorly, and did not accommodate any of the LifeStorage employees that were shifting over. Training was minimal to none and we were thrown to the wolves.

Stay away
|
|
Made my own schedule. Holidays off.
|
Practically everything. They expect one person to run the whole facility and work 6 days a week without having any issue. In the 2 years I worked here I spent almost an entire year single staffed. I had to work 6 days a week for $17 an hour dealing with rodents, rowdy customers and area managers micromanaging my store.

Listen to your store managers. Every one in upper management should have in store experience. Also, stop putting store managers names on corporate letters to customers. So many shady business practices.

You will be TAKEN advantage of!
|
|
Sitting in an office when you can.
You see regular customers instead of new people everyday.
Not a lot of in person coworkers.
|
Since the "merger" with Extra Space (we merged in name only.) We have taken a step back at least a decade in technology.
They took away our bonus plan resulting in thousands of dollars in a pay cut for management.
We lost property managers and automated phone lines, so now YOU are responsible for every repair, service, contract, phone payments, everything. They don't tell you your budget and pushback everything you actually need.
They bait and switch the customer with online sales only to jack up the rent once theyre all moved in and tell management it's their job to negotiate the rates after the customer is angry.
They don't care if there's understaffed you can be left alone for weeks in your office juggling move ins, emails, and the phone.
Management only cares about your store if your aren't selling enough CPP (insurance).
You aren't :managing" anyone, your assistant also reports to the DM not you, and they will pulled outta your store all week with you having no say in it.
If you're a woman prepared to be told to smile and not be negative about anything, while male colleagues who make the same criticism are promoted.
Your boss doesn't do anything but approve requests and delegate their job to 2-6 supervisors (DTLs) with made up titles you'll have.
You are micro managed with pointless checklists and emails to hold yourself accountable, that again, no one checks unless you aren't selling enough insurance.
If your are LifeStorage employee, Extra Space upper management will treat you like a burden they can't wait to be rid of.
They say they promote incusitivy but look at the photo of ExtraSpace at NYC stock exchange of the upper management team and see for yourself.

The district managers should be required to be able to work a full day in the office as a store manager before they can critique anything, my current and former DM CAN NOT even work my store because they don't know how to do a Store Managers Job.
The Extra Space DVP for my area has a terrible reputation of being sexist and having a vendetta against anything Life Storage.
Anything personal that gets told to the DM (like a divorce, or person issue) should stay personal and not be leaked to the whole district.
Do something that makes your feel like your managing the district not just handing off every task that isn't an approval to a DTL.

Great Company

|
Life Storage was a one of the best companies I worked for. The work life balance was something to admire
|
With new management under Extra Space expectations have shifted more toward work more than life balance
