Fast forward to Covid I went back to Screener and then the changes in the company came and It's not enjoyable anymore. I Love my site and The Flexibility is great! The company now, is not the company I started with. I am casual part time, but my manager demands are more geared towards full timers. Pediatrix just did an overhaul of management, job expectations, demotions to try to get the company's profits back up. They claim we are going back to focusing on the hearing screenings and more ability to advance. The problem is, the company offers zero support to those who actually work as screeners. They only adjust their needs and support for those who work safely behind a desk. They offer no PPE, They do not offer back up screeners when needed and expect screeners to find coverage on their own. Management talks sweetly about how they care, but they do not prove that by their actions. Working with newborn babies, joy of helping parents feel comfortable with screening. Bad management. One: you’re screening a newborn to catch early hearing loss, which is incredibly important to catch early on. Two: management is nice and understanding of work/ life balance. It is usually a small staff so frequent call offs are frowned upon as to be expected when you have a small staff. Otherwise there’s no micromanaging and the higher ups treat you well because of how important you actually are. Three: the flexibility of the job is out of this world good. You can work around kids, appointments, school, ect. As long as you show up and get the job done, then you’re good! Pay is average but it’s a easy/ fun job so pay is to be expected. There IS room for advancement as long as you don’t call off unnecessarily, you’re respectful to management and hospital staff and you’re drama free. Do you job right and you will see the benefits. Work-life balance You start at a specific time but you never know when your shift will end. It depends on how many babies were born the day before and how many screeners are working to complete the patient load. Overall Working at Pediatrix wasn't bad. It was nice to work in a hospital setting with the babies. The pay was low. The hours were unstable example I would start work at 7am but may not get up work until 1pm or 7pm. It was dependent upon how many babies were born the day before and when they were getting discharged. At times the Fathers YES Fathers were more fussier than the babies and you require a quiet area for the baby to complete the screening, imagine the continuous ask of adults to "Please refrain from any noise while the scan is in process" Get ready for attitude even though your there for the sake of their child... There was something new with each baby so always learning, NOT ENOUGH PAY!
