Continuing working along with financial advisors and client service associates that were part of Smith Barney prior to being merged into Morgan Stanley What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Working with the new management and managers. Being merged into Morgan Stanley systems and working working along side new personnel. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Could be friendly depending on who you are and who’s recruited you. That was over two years ago on the longer there. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I had a few duties. Being in IT working for a financial institution it can be stressful at times. Every second down can cost the company a lot of money. After a business management consultant was hired their findings recommended laying off a certain percentage of IT staff each year. They concluded that there was a certain amount of dead wood and managers were not doing there job in getting rid of them. Instead passing them on to other teams. This was not necessarily a bad concept but it was flat across the board so even good managers had to lay off good employees. As is the case in Corp America Morgan Stanley only cared about the stock holders and the quarterly/annual reports and projections. If they were short the quickest way to cut expenses was to cut staff.
