Not happy with this company. Limited resources for training, management was all over the place. Feedback was never given on performance and work life balance was terrible.

Complacent Workplace
|
NextEra Energy (a subsidiary of Florida Power & Light) deals with complacency like most large utility companies. The corporate office too often tries to micro-manage instead of giving the resident managers the freedom to call the shots with recommendations from the onsite technical staff. The technologies are rarely start of the art but that is typical in the Nuclear Power industry.

Low stress workplace, good pay

Not very productive or challenging environment, not state of the art technology.

Pay is good. Job is extremely stressful. "Doing more with less"
|
I really like the people I work with and really enjoy the work I do. Unfortunately I do not like the company. They have gutted the number of employees to the point that a lot of work that should be getting done, doesn't. People are "given" more and more responsibilities beyond their role every day (given meaning no other choice because no one else will do it). You can never feel comfortable in your role because "the only thing that is consistent is change". Good for the shareholders I guess, but bad for the employees, customers, builders, and community. Utilities should have an obligation to treat customers right, and all the employees want to do just that but there isn't enough hours in the day with the resources we are allotted. Could be a great place to work if the company wasn't only focused on their bottom line.

Certain perks
|
They had a lot of options for time off without loosing hours. Was able to get time off at the last minute without it affecting their business or your reputation.
The last 2 to 3 years they we’re streamlining customer service by combining departments, so we did two or 3 jobs with no increase. Unrealistic expectations. They lost site of what it takes to give good customer service.

Flexible schedule, plenty of opportunity for overtime, supplied all meals during storm schedules, paid OT after 8hrs daily

Great job at first.
|
Worked there for 3 years traveling 100% of the time. My direct crew I worked with was great. The other business units we worked with didn’t really understand what we were there for. All in all it was great day today except the location scheduling. Spending winter in North Dakota than summers in west Texas just didn’t make sense. After all the great work we did the higher ups in Florida decided for some reason we weren’t needed any more and laid off the whole GRS crane division and that was that. I tried to stay with the company after moving back to Florida and I didn’t get any help from the internal HR department. So basically job was good but the company as a whole will lay you off in a heart beat if a accountant that has never been in the field thinks the numbers make sense.

Fun place to work. Energizing environment with peers who all work together to help each other out. There is plenty to do on a daily basis and you learn something new every day.

Fun Place To Work at, Structured, Good Internship
|
Overall, my experience at NextEra Energy is a positive one. As an intern you're given a meaningful project to work on, and at the end, you present your project to the higher ups of the department. The people at NextEra were probably my favorite because they were very encouraging and welcoming. Next Era focuses more on hiring team players over insanely smart students who aren't good collaborating in teams. If you're interested in working in the energy sector, then this is the place for you.

Fanatical corporate company. Every single move you make will be tracked. Site leaders and managers are only considered as such once they have recieved "company leadership courses."
For example, a lot of employees talk about how quickly you can promote if you simply complete the company required training, this obviously creates an environment run completely be "computer trained leaders," major problem #1.
People with real world experience that should be promoted based off of skill and track record alone will be devalued and undermined unless they're willing to drink their kool-aid.
Highly unskilled/immature leaders from project management down to site leads.
Pay scale is not the best by any means and benefits arent anything to write home about.
Zero freedom to think for yourself. Try it and find out.

This industry is such a joke
|
The wind fleet is such a joke. Its a bunch of little boys/sheep pretending that what they're managing actually means anything. Wind turbines are one of th3 most unreliable means of power generation in the modern world. Political smoke and mirrors.
A great career choice for teenage college kids that are ignorant and inexperienced. Nextera depends on weak willed group think.
