I've worked for a variety of companies, both full-time and as a contractor, and I have yet to work at another company that has the same appreciation and respect for training that NiSource did. It set the standard for all other companies I've worked at. Working in L&D, I always felt like our work was a must-have, not just a nice-to-have. Our voices were heard, we were treated as the learning experts, and leadership made it clear that they understood the value training brings to a company--and with their training facilities and the money they've put into overhauls of training programs, they have made it clear they mean it. They were very picky about following the script and would freak out even if you forgot to say something as simple as the word "and" or "the" which was ridiculous. Also they were pushy about trying to forward customers calls on to another call center when they were done with our call so they could be offered other services at a cost. Some of the representatives forwarded the calls even without the customers consent because we got merit points for the more calls that were forwarded to said company. Even tho it is a utility company, it was run more like a sales company when I worked there, could be different now though. You only need to care about how many calls you take. Based on metrics like any other call center. Not alot of assistance available when needed to answer questions. Soul sucking job. Which will be a contribution to you metrics. Told we can not reach out to anyone in an IM etc. It's a cluster beep...the job is difficult enough taking calls all day and expected to make unrealistic goes. Well not for the top QA winners. That's another issue but!!
